Ocelot is a shy, passive mob in Minecraft. Ocelots are creatures of the jungle biome. They do not attack players, although they can attack chickens to eat them. A tamed ocelot (cat) is very useful to scare off creepers when they get close to you. It is not easy to tame an ocelot, but it is possible - you need a little fish and a lot of patience.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Collect Resources

1. 1 Take a lot of raw fish. You can get raw fish by fishing. Use the fishing rod while near the water and hoard fish in your inventory. You will need at least five fish, maybe 20 or so, so that you can lure the ocelots to you.
   • A fishing rod can be made from three sticks and two strings, which can be obtained by killing spiders. On the crafting table, place the sticks diagonally from top to bottom from left to right, and the rope to the left vertically.
   • Don't cook fish. Ocelots are only attracted to raw fish.

Method 2 of 3: Keep Your Hero in the Right Place

1. 1 Wait until an ocelot comes up to you. This is a very important requirement, otherwise you will not be able to tame the ocelot. If you try to approach the ocelot, he will decide that you are after him and will run away. Also, if you trap or corner the ocelot, you won't be able to tame it.
   • Most likely, ocelots will come up to you while you hold the fish.
   • Don't threaten them.
2. 2 Be in a location where the ocelot can easily escape. Your hero should be in a horizontal blocky area, at least 7 by 7. This will create a sense of security for the ocelot.
3. 3 Be somewhere where there are no aggressive mobs. You will not be able to tame an ocelot if you are simultaneously attacked. In addition, there should be no chickens or other animals in the vicinity.

Method 3 of 3: Try to tame the ocelot

1. 1 Keep the fish raw during the entire taming process.
2. 2 Never look directly at an ocelot when you are trying to tame it. That is, remove the crosshair.
3. 3 Come closer to the ocelot very carefully and quietly. The ocelot is very easy to scare off.
   • Walk at your normal speed if you need to get closer to the ocelot, but don't come too fast. Use only a step to get closer, and then stop moving.
   • When you approach an ocelot, stop immediately if it turns in your direction.
4. 4 Wait for it to come up. If the ocelot turns and looks at you, it may come up to you.
   • If possible, be still. This is the best way to attract an ocelot.
   • Try to sneak up — this will work if you can avoid disturbing the ocelot (hold the crouch while the mouse sensitivity is tuned to yawn).
5. 5 Stay still when the ocelot is five blocks away. Continue to hold the raw fish without moving or looking directly at the ocelot.
   • Wait until the ocelot looks at your hero and approaches him carefully. If done correctly, the ocelot should slowly walk towards you.
6. 6 Wait until the ocelot stops a few blocks from your hero. When this happens, slowly look at the ocelot and right-click to give him a fish. Remain stationary while the ocelot eats.
7. 7 Wait for the ocelot to transform into a tamed cat. The taming process is not complete until the ocelot turns into a cat. Perhaps hearts will appear or the ocelot will begin to puff after eating the fish, however, only after it turns into a cat, it is safe to say that you have tamed it.
8. 8 Feed the ocelot again if it doesn't turn into a cat. Make quick repeated right-clicks without rotating the camera or moving the hero. Any movement can scare the ocelot before it becomes tamed.
9. 9 If the ocelot turns into a cat, consider that you have successfully tamed it. There are three possible cat breeds that an ocelot can transform into - Siamese, ginger, and black and white.
   • A tamed ocelot (cat) ceases to be afraid of people. He will meow and hum often. He will walk behind you and sit on command (you just need to right-click to do this).
   • Cats will sit everywhere, including on chests, which may turn out to be an interesting nuance, since the chest will not fully open if the cat does not climb off of it.
   • Expect creepers to scatter when a cat is near you.

Tips

• Cats will scare off creepers, but will not directly attack aggressive mobs.
• Cats can be bred if you have two. Feed both raw fish, they will enter breeding mode.
• Cats love to walk and will not sit still for long. They can attack chickens, move away and be naughty.
• If you look directly at the ocelot through the transparent blocks, it won't run away. This will help you find the right way to tame it.
• It's easier to tame ocelots in Creative mode.
• If you don't have the patience to tame two cats, use a Fertilized Ocelot Egg. Aim the crosshair at your cat and press "Breed" to get a kitten.
• Ocelots only spawn in jungle biomes.
• If you die and the cat doesn't, then the cat will teleport to your bed or respawn with you.
• It may take several tries to tame the ocelot. You shouldn't chase them or try to drive them into a corner - you can't tame an ocelot like that. In fact, this exercise develops patience.
• Don't move or make sudden movements!

Warnings

• It is not recommended to keep chickens in an enclosed space in the jungle biome unless you want to attract ocelots. They will do anything to steal your chickens!
• Cats don't worry about danger, which means you could lose your new ocelot if you don't keep an eye on it. For example, a cat may walk very close to a cactus and prick itself. A tamed ocelot can also go where the battle is taking place, where it can be injured by arrows or other objects.
• Only adult cats can swim. Kittens (born to two cats) drown quickly. Cats will follow you in the water, so if you have kittens, be careful not to bring them with you.
