1 Place the boutonniere correctly. Flowers should be on your side and on the opposite side of the lapel. The leaves behind the flowers should be farther away from you and closer to the lapel.

2 Place the boutonniere on the left lapel. If you are facing your companion, she should be on your right side.

3 Move the boutonniere so that it is at the widest point of the lapel.

4 Pin the boutonniere. Hold it in place with one hand and lift the lapel with the other five centimeters. With your free hand, grab a pin and pierce it from the back of the lapel through the stem of the boutonniere. The round head of the pin should be on the back of the lapel. Push the pin upward away from your companion's chest.

• Then secure the pin by piercing it back under the lapel, angled down and to the left. Then the pin will not be visible.

5 Check the location of the boutonniere. Take a step back and make sure the boutonniere is pinned vertically and securely secured to the lapel. If everything is ok, then you are done.
