Want to make the perfect latte? Take the ingredients listed below, follow the directions, and you will quench your coffee cravings in the comfort of your home. Making a latte isn't that difficult.

Ingredients

  • Espresso
  • 175 ml-235 ml milk
  • Syrup (optional)

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Making a Latte Using a Coffee Machine

  1. 1 Preheat the cup you are going to pour the latte into (optional). If you want your latte to stay warm for longer, heat the cup with warm water in it while you steam the milk.
  2. 2 Pour a cup of milk into a metal jug. The pitcher is 3/4 full if you add syrup.
    • Skim milk is easiest to make froth, but it will not taste as good as with higher fat milk.
    • 2% milk produces a light and airy foam that will add a little creamy flavor to your drink.
    • Whole milk is the hardest to froth, but it makes the tastiest latte due to its high fat content.
  3. 3 Using a thermometer, beat the milk until it reaches a temperature of 68 - 74 ºC. Do not reach a temperature of 77 º C, otherwise the milk will burn.
    • If you don't have a thermometer, place your hand under the jug. When the jug gets too hot to touch, it's time to remove it from the steam wand.
    • Insert the steam wand diagonally into the milk, lowering it just below the surface of the milk. This will create the perfect froth needed for a good latte.
    • Make small, light bubbles instead of large ones. You want your foam to be light and airy, don't you?
    • When whipping the froth, make sure you create a spinning current in the steam jug. As soon as the milk is warm to the touch, lift the steam jug to stop foaming and continue heating to 74ºC.
  4. 4 Fill the ground espresso tightly into the portafilter (holder). Place the portafilter in the coffee machine. Start making coffee.
  5. 5 For one serving of espresso, you need 7-8 grams of ground coffee.
    • For a double latte, use double coffee (strong espresso aroma). For a latte with a mild espresso flavor, one serving will suffice.
    • Tempo the coffee with approximately 20-25 kilograms to form the perfect coffee pill. Press down on a normal scale to find out how hard you will need to press on the portafilter.
    • Grind espresso coffee beans in a coffee grinder, freshly ground coffee will give an even better aroma. You can also control how finely you want to grind the coffee.
  6. 6 Pour in espresso. This is a real art: if done perfectly, you will have liquid and a little cream or foam.
    • The ideal speed at which an espresso is dispensed is 21-24 seconds, with the espresso being sweeter if it is dispensed closer to 24 seconds.
    • You can control this speed with the intensity of the tempting of the coffee. If you press it hard enough, the espresso will pour out slowly, and if you press it lightly, the espresso will come out very quickly.
  7. 7 Pour coffee into a coffee cup. Milk must be added no later than 10 seconds.
  8. 8Shake the milk in a jug until smooth.
  9. 9 Pour the frothed milk into the espresso. The milk froth will mix with the espresso froth.

    • Now is the time to get started with latte art.
    • When pouring, use a spoon to regulate the flow of foam. Use a spoon to scoop the froth until the cup is 3/4 full. Now you can remove the spoon. You should have a nice brown foam with a small white mound of foam in the center.

Method 2 of 2: Making a latte without a coffee machine

  1. 1 Make strong coffee. Strong coffee or espresso, if available, will do.
  2. 2 Heat 1 cup (~ 175 ml) milk in a saucepan on the stove over medium heat. Use 2% or whole milk for a creamier latte, or use skim milk.
  3. 3 Whisk the milk together. You can also use a blender or - as a last resort - a food processor to make the froth.
  4. 4 Pour coffee or espresso into a mug. Remember to leave room for the milk froth.
  5. 5 While holding the lather, gently pour the milk into the mug. After you've poured most of the milk, place the froth on top and enjoy.
    • Put some ( at all a little) of vanilla extract - and you get a nutty, sweetish aroma.
    • Sprinkle the espresso with cinnamon or nutmeg if desired.

Tips

  • Keep the jug in the refrigerator before frothing milk.A cold pitcher will give you more time to make the best lather.
  • Espresso has three parts: the most important is a heart (light brown part); body (the main part of the drink is dark brown); and foam (foam on the surface of the coffee). You can also add syrups and sugar for extra flavor.

What do you need

  • Coffee machine with steam pipe
  • Temper
  • Metal jug
  • Low glasses or cups
  • Thermometer (optional). If you know what you are doing, you will already be able to determine the temperature.
  • Milk
  • Ground espresso
  • Coffee mug
