Steps

1. 1 Study well at school. When applying for admission, the admissions committee will first of all pay attention to your academic success.
2. 2 Challenge yourself by signing up for a challenging high school curriculum. Since Yale is a member of the Ivy League, the admissions committee is interested in applicants who can handle the increased academic workload.
3. 3 Take the SAT or ACT exam multiple times in high school to improve your chances of getting the best results. Although Yale University's main concern is academic performance, the admissions committee will look at your exam scores as well. Generally, Yale University does not accept applicants with a score below 700 on any SAT section or below 30 on the ACT.
4. 4 Get yourself involved in activities outside of school. Yale University takes into account the work experience, extracurricular activities and community activities of applicants. Whenever possible, always strive to take leadership roles in all of your activities.
5. 5 Complete the Common Application and Yale Application. You can fill out the form and application online at the Common Application website. Pay for the application with a bank card or electronic check.
   • You can also print and mail these forms to Yale University, but most applicants submit their applications online. 6. 6 Ask two teachers to write you personalized recommendation letters. Teachers will be able to submit them online using a link available through the Common Application website.
   • The Yale University Admissions Office is awaiting recommendations that highlight your performance in school, as well as your energy, level of motivation, relationships with classmates, intellectual curiosity, and your impact on the environment at school.
7. 7 Ask the school counselor or your class teacher to write you a recommendation letter and attach your grades to it. This recommendation should help the admissions committee assess the complexity of your school subjects and become better acquainted with your personal history, including any leadership positions you have ever held.
8. 8 Attach your SAT or ACT scores to the application form via the Common Application website. Consult the Standardized Testing page on the Yale University website to see if any other exams are required to enter your department.
9. 9 Ask your school counselor or your homeroom teacher to submit your first semester grades via the Common Application website as soon as the grades become available. Yale wants to ensure that applicants maintain a high level of academic performance throughout their senior year.
10. 10 Expect an email from Yale University with instructions on how to open an Eli account, which should arrive within 3 weeks of submitting your application to the university. This email will be sent to the email address provided on your application. With the help of the Eli system, you will be able to keep track of which documents were received by the admissions committee, as well as check the status of your application.
