This article will show you how to create a Twitter account on your computer and mobile device.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: On the computer

1. 1 Open the Twitter website. Go to https://twitter.com/ in your computer's web browser.
2. 2 Click on registration. It's a blue button in the middle of the page. You will be taken to the registration page.
3. 3 Enter your name. Enter your name in the Name text box. Here you can enter your name, nickname, or organization name.
4. 4 Enter your phone number. Do this in the "Phone" text box.
   • If you want to use an email address instead of a phone number, click on Use Email under the Phone text box, and then enter the email address you want to associate with your Twitter account.
5. 5 Click on Further. It's in the upper-right corner of the page.
6. 6 Click on Register now. It's in the middle of the page.
7. 7 Confirm your phone number. Skip this step if you provided an email address. If you entered a phone number, you must confirm it. For this:
   • Click OK when prompted.
   • Launch the Messages app on your smartphone.
   • Open a text message from Twitter.
   • Find the six-digit code in the message.
   • Enter the code in the Twitter text box.
   • Click Next to continue.
8. 8 Create a password. Enter your password in the Password text box, and then click Next to confirm it.
9. 9 Choose your interests. Scroll through the list of topics and click on each that interests you.
   • You can also click Skip at the top of the window. In this case, skip the next step.
10. 10 Click on Further. It's in the upper-right corner of the page.
11. 11 Select the people you want to follow. To do this, check the boxes next to the required recommended accounts.
    • If you are not going to follow anyone yet, click Skip and skip the next step.
12. 12 Click on Subscribe to. It's in the upper-right side of the page. The selected accounts will be added to the Subscriptions tab, and you will be taken to your Twitter page.
13. 13 Confirm your email address. If you entered an email address (rather than a phone number) when creating your Twitter account, you need to verify it. For this:
    • Open your mailbox.
    • Click on the email from Twitter.
    • Click on the link in the letter.

Method 2 of 2: On a mobile device

1. 1 Install the Twitter app. If you don't have this app on your iPhone or Android device, download it for free from the App Store (iPhone) or Play Store (Android).
2. 2 Launch the Twitter app. Click "Open" in the app store or tap the Twitter app icon.
3. 3 Click on Proceed. This button is in the center of the screen. The Twitter registration form will open.
4. 4 Enter your name. Enter your name in the Name text box at the top of the page. You can enter a name, nickname, or organization name.
5. 5 Enter your phone number. Click on the "Phone or Email" text box and then enter your mobile phone number.
   • If you want to use an email address instead of a phone number, click on Use Email under the Phone text box, and then enter the email address you want to associate with your Twitter account.
6. 6 Tap Further. It's in the lower-right side of the form.
7. 7 Click on Register now. You will find this option at the bottom of the screen.
8. 8 Confirm your phone number. Skip this step if you provided an email address. If you entered a phone number, you must confirm it. For this:
   • Click OK when prompted.
   • Launch the Messages app on your smartphone.
   • Open a text message from Twitter.
   • Find the six-digit code in the message.
   • Enter the code in the Twitter text box.
   • Click Next to continue.
9. 9 Create a password. Enter your Twitter password, then click Next. The password should be strong and easy to remember.
10. 10 Sync your contacts with Twitter (if you like). To allow Twitter to access your contacts, tap Sync Contacts, then follow the onscreen instructions (the steps will vary depending on your device model).
11. 11 Choose your interests. Scroll through the list of topics and tap each that interests you.
    • You can also click Skip at the top of the screen. In this case, skip the next step.
12. 12 Click on Further. It's at the bottom of the screen.
13. 13 Select the people you want to follow. To do this, check the boxes next to the required recommended accounts.
    • If you are not going to follow anyone yet, click Skip and skip the next step.
14. 14 Tap Subscribe to. It's at the bottom of the screen. The selected accounts are added to the Subscriptions list.
15. 15 Finish setting up Twitter. Depending on the smartphone model, there may be requests for permission notifications, access to GPS / GLONASS and / or access to photos. When you're done setting up, you'll be taken to your Twitter page.
    • You can simply click “Don't Allow” or “Not Now” on each request to prevent Twitter from accessing the specified features.

Tips

• On a mobile device, Twitter can be accessed through the site in a mobile browser rather than through the Twitter app.
• If you encounter an unsolvable problem, please contact Twitter support.

Warnings

• The Twitter application can be installed on almost any smartphone (even a not very powerful one). However, if your smartphone is running the wrong version of the operating system, you won't be able to install the Twitter app.
