You can change your Skype password on the Skype website at any time. You can change your existing password for security purposes; request a new password if you have forgotten the old one; verify your identity to get a new password if you cannot access your email.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Change your password

1. 1 Open the Skype website.
2. 2 Click Sign in (in the upper right corner of the Skype website).
3. 3 Enter your username and password in the appropriate lines and click "Sign in".
4. 4 Scroll down your profile page and find the “Your password” section (left).
5. 5 Click "Change password".
6. 6 Enter your old password and then enter your new password.
7. 7 Click “Save settings”.

Method 2 of 3: Reset a Forgotten Password

1. 1 Open the site "Skype Password Reset Request" (see. (See the Sources and Links section of this article).
2. 2 Enter the email address you provided during Skype registration and click Submit.
3. 3 Open your email and wait for a message from Skype with a time code.
   • You must reset your password using the time code within 6 hours; otherwise, the code will be canceled and you need to repeat the password reset process.
4. 4 Click on the link (temporary code) in the email to open the Skype site to reset your password.
   • If the timecode link doesn't work, you can enter it manually on the Skype website.
5. 5 Enter the new password in the appropriate lines and click "Submit".

Method 3 of 3: Verifying Identity

1. 1 Open the Password Automation website (see (See the Sources and Links section of this article) if you can't access your email.
2. 2 Enter your Skype username and click "Submit".
3. 3 Enter the personal information that you used when purchasing Skype services.
   • Personal information includes your full name, your country, and your purchase number or your credit card information.
   • Skype services purchased include Skype Credits and Skype Subscriptions.
4. 4 Follow the instructions on the Skype website to update your account information, such as changing your email address and password.
   • If you are unable to verify your identity, create a new Skype account. To do this, click "Create a new Skype account".

Tips

• Your Skype password can be up to 20 characters long, including upper and lower case letters, numbers, and symbols (such as a dollar sign or exclamation mark).
