Did you know that you can send free SMS directly from your Gmail account? It's easy to do, and many find it much easier to write like this than to type with two fingers. Our article will show you how to do this.
Steps
1 Go to your Gmail account.
2 If you have not yet set up an SMS chat, then it's time to do it.
3 Turn on chat. Once logged in, click on the "Settings" icon and select "Settings" from the drop-down menu. 
4 Click on the "Labs" tab. Gmail Labs is a collection of gadgets that have not yet been officially released, so you should keep in mind that they can change, break, or disappear at any time.Up to this point, however, Labs remains a collection of extremely interesting tools. 
5 Find "SMS (text messaging) in Chat". You should activate this option. Scroll down until you find it, or type CTRL-F (Command-F on Mac) and type SMS in the search box to quickly find it in your browser. - Click on the "Enable" button.
- Save your changes. Gmail will restart and you will be returned to your old Gmail page.
- Place the cursor over the recipient's name. His account will appear. In the lower right corner, click on the down arrow and then on "Send SMS".
- Enter the recipient's phone number. If the number is not listed in the contact information, enter it in the dialog box and then send a text message.
- Go to the chat. If the recipient's number is available, Gmail will notify you and remind you that his reply is billed as usual. If your recipient is online now, Gmail will prompt you to go to the chat.
6 Type your message and press Enter. The message will be sent to the number you specified.
Tips
- If the addressee answers you, the message will appear as a reply via chat and will be saved in the conversation history.

Warnings
- Unlike regular chat, SMS cannot be sent in confidential mode.
- Google does not charge for text messages, but if your recipient answers through their mobile operator, it pays for all messages at the standard rate.
