Sometimes it can be very convenient to be able to show someone a picture that is on a digital camera without having to carry it around with you. A good solution is to transfer images to your mobile phone - you will have photos wherever you go with your cell phone!

Steps

  1. 1 Download the image to your computer. This can be done quickly and easily using a cable to connect your digital camera to your computer. You should find the cable that should have been in the same box that you received your digital camera in.
  2. 2 Edit the image to any size your phone can handle (as long as it doesn't automatically resize it). If you do not change it before transfer, and the image is distorted, stretched, too small or otherwise (not up to par), then you can always go back and try to do it again.
  3. 3 To transfer photos:
    • If your phone has a USB / phone cable: You can use it to connect your phone to a computer (via USB) to transfer images. The phone should be recognized on the computer as a new device, and in "My Computer" it should appear as a new disk. You can simply click and drag items to the drive, which should then appear on your phone. If not, you may need to look at the specific program provided by your phone manufacturer.
    • If your phone does not have a USB cable and you want to use the email / picture method: then follow steps 3-4.
    • If both your phone and computer have Bluetooth, follow steps 5-6.
  4. 4 [For email / message]: find the email address to which you want to send the photos. Providers deal with phone numbers like email. Below are the most common ISPs and email addresses that you need to send images to in order for them to arrive as a text message on your mobile phone:
    • Virgin Mobile: phone [email protected]
    • Cingular: phone number @ cingularme.com
    • Sprint: phone number @ messaging.sprintpcs.com
    • Verizon: phone number @ vzwpix.com
    • Nextel: phone number @ messaging.nextel.com
    • AT&T: phone number @ txt.att.net
  5. 5 Enter your email address for this number and send a photo as an attached file to your phone. You should be able to save the photo as a background, or just save it to your phone, etc.
  6. 6 [For Bluetooth]: Turn on Bluetooth on your phone if you haven't already. You will need to pair your phone and computer for this to work. Don't panic: this is easier than it sounds.
    • You need to configure your computer to allow Bluetooth connections. This can be done through the Control Panel. Double click the Bluetooth icon, then you should see the Bluetooth Devices window.Go to the Options tab and make sure both "Allow Bluetooth devices to find this computer" and "Allow Bluetooth devices to connect to this computer" included.
    • Go to the Devices tab and click the Add button. The Add Bluetooth Device Wizard window opens. After verifying that the device is installed and ready to be discovered, the wizard will search for your phone.
    • Select your phone and click Next. Now you must enter a password - for security reasons. Enter something simple (unless you remember the numbers, such as 0000 or 1212). The phone should prompt you to enter this passkey. Do this and the connection process is complete when Windows finishes the process.
  7. 7 If you don't already have it or another program that deals with broadcasting, then download the latest version of Ringtone Media Studio. It supports major cell phone models and deals with transmission of various sizes over a Bluetooth connection. When you install and run it, you will see a list of files on the system that can be transferred. Find the photos you want to transfer and click the Transfer button to copy them to your phone.

Tips

  • If your phone is too old and does not have the Computer / Phone feature, then it might be a good idea to upgrade and get a phone that has this feature in order to successfully transfer photos from your camera to your phone. Unless, of course, you would like to use Bluetooth or email to transfer images.
  • If you have an image sharing plan it is usually free, otherwise you will pay for it in the same way as for messages. This can add to costs and cost very little, so if you are on a budget then the email / image messaging method is not right for you.

Warnings

  • You may need to install a special program to transfer information from your computer to your phone and vice versa. Be sure to install it from the CD that was provided when you first received your phone, or, if necessary, download it from a reliable and secure website. If not, you can use the program suggested in step 6.
  • Please be aware that the email / picture method may NOT work. If this happens, it might be a good idea to try using USB / Phone or Bluetooth methods. If none of the methods work, or the phone is too old, then it might be a good idea to buy a new phone - unless you are on a budget and / or cannot "put up" with the old one. If you're not too worried about having these digital camera photos on your phone as well, then not buy a new phone for this.
