Your car's windshields and side windows can get very dirty and scratched, making them difficult to see. If your glass has shallow scratches, consider polishing it. The first thing to do is wash the outside and inside of your glass. Then polish the outside of the windshield and apply a special protective layer.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Wash your car windows

1. 1 Choose the right time and place. When you wash your car, washing and polishing your windows should be done last. The windows should be washed in a place where there is no direct sunlight, when the windows are completely dry. Otherwise, the sun will dry out the glass cleaner and leave stubborn stains.
2. 2 Find the materials you need. An auto glass cleaner will be better than your regular household glass cleaner, which often contains ammonia and other chemicals that can harm you and your car. A microfiber towel is also necessary as it is non-abrasive and very gently cleans the surface of the car glass without scratching it.
3. 3 Lower the windows halfway. You need access to the very top of the glass.
4. 4 Spray glass cleaner on your car window. Dry your car window with a microfiber towel. Movement should be from side to side. Wash both sides of the glass.
5. 5 Use the dry side of the microfiber towel. Use the dry side of a microfiber towel to wipe off any remaining moisture from the glass.
6. 6 Lift the glass and wash the bottom. Spray on the cleaner, rub it in, then wipe it off completely.
7. 7 Wash your windshield and rear windows. Spray window cleaner and rub with microfiber. Movement should be from side to side and from top to bottom. Use the dry side of a microfiber towel to wipe off any remaining moisture.
8. 8 Rinse with water. Once you've cleared the deep-seated dirt from your windows, you can start removing streaks and other marks with plain water. Rinse the outside of the windows gently with a hose and the inside with a spray bottle. Use a clean, dry microfiber towel to dry the windows.

Method 2 of 2: Polishing your windows

1. 1 Choose a window polish. There are a large number of different window polishes on the market. You can opt for a polishing kit that includes a polishing disc that can remove more serious scratches and stains. Or you can simply buy a high quality glass restorer that will remove minor stains and scratches.
2. 2 Use a low speed polisher. The rotation speed of the polishing wheel should be between 1000 and 1200 rpm. A soft polishing wheel must be installed on the machine.
3. 3 Apply lubricating oil to the polishing wheel. The oil will help the polish to work better on the glass, which will reduce the amount of polishing paste used and reduce abrasiveness.
4. 4 Apply polishing paste to the buffing wheel. Apply as much paste as recommended by the manufacturer's instructions. You should also apply the paste evenly over the entire polishing wheel.
5. 5 Start at the top corner of the glass. Use your main hand to hold the polisher while using your secondary hand to guide the movement of the polisher. Do not apply excessive pressure. The polishing wheel will itself distribute the necessary pressure on the glass.
6. 6 Cover the glass completely. Move the car from side to side at a constant speed. Do not make sudden jerks. This can increase the chance of damage to your glass. Continue until the entire glass is covered with the polishing paste and stop polishing when the polishing paste begins to dry.
   • Keep in mind that the polishing machine has a specific movement pattern. When you move it to the right, it will simultaneously go up. When you slide it to the left, it will automatically go down. You don't have to fight and resist the rhythm of the machine, just learn how to use it correctly.
7. 7 Wipe off any remaining polishing paste. Using a clean microfiber towel, use a circular motion, without pressure, to wipe off any remaining polishing paste from your car glass. Continue wiping until there is no polishing paste or smudges on the glass.
8. 8 Apply a glass protector. Your car glass is now completely “bare”. Automotive glass protector will help your glass stay smoother and smoother for longer. This product fills the micropores in your glass. Apply a small amount of this product to a sponge and rub on the polished glass. The movement of the sponge should be from side to side, and from top to bottom. Use as much product as necessary to cover the entire glass.

Warnings

• Avoid glass cleaners that contain ammonia or isopropyl alcohol. These chemicals can give off toxic fumes that you inhale inside the enclosed space of your vehicle. What's more, these cleaners can damage your car's tint film.
