There are several simple methods for detecting counterfeit Euro (European money) bills. European stores, warehouses and companies quite often use a currency authenticity detector.

Steps

  1. 1 Shine ultraviolet light on the bill. Several small streaks / scratches will appear. If you do not see any bright white stripes / scratches, then the euro banknote is 99.9% counterfeit. If the scratches are displayed, congratulations, the money is real.
  2. 2 Next to the number that indicates the value of the bill, you will find a 0.5 x 1 cm rectangle. Place any finger of your left hand under it and scratch the rectangle with your fingernail. If there is a sound like a zipper, the banknote is considered authentic. Otherwise, or if there is no such rectangle at all, alas, your bill is a fake.
  3. 3 Each banknote has a holographic stripe on the right side and on the inside, or as in the Greek version of “euro” (EYPΩ), where microprinting was used when superimposing its monetary value and the “EYPΩ” logo on the banknote.
  4. 4 Measure the bill. Each banknote has its own size (in millimeters) and color: tbody> / tbody>
    tbody> / tbody>
    • 5 = 120 x 62 (gray)
    • 10 = 127 x 67 (red)
    • 20 = 133 x 72 (blue)
    • 50 = 140 x 77 (orange)
    • 100 = 147 x 82 (green)
    • 200 = 153 x 82 (yellow)
    • 500 = 160 x 82 (purple)

Tips

  • Banknotes are made from pure cotton fiber, NOT paper.
  • When converting US dollars and other currencies to Euros, make sure to proceed with the transaction in a safe place (for example, Western Union, Citibank, etc.).
  • There are euro banknotes of the following denominations: 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500. Don't let anyone cheat you by offering a 15 euro note in exchange for 15 euro coins.
  • Try to avoid exchanging your coins for banknotes. European coins are much more difficult to duplicate.
