1 Choose and buy an uncircumcised mirror, decide on a pattern. Drawing a diagram can help you.
  • 2 Clean and dry the mirror before starting work. This is a very important step, as even the smallest particle of dirt or dust can interfere with your making even marks. So the mirror can break off or even break.
  • 3 Place your incisor vertically or clearly from top to bottom on the back of the mirror. If you set your cutter incorrectly, then there are risks of uneven cutting of the mirror or its breakage.
  • 4 Using a little pressure on the cutter, slide it over your drawing. Most of the time, you will hear a grinding sound if you do it right. If you do not hear any sounds, it means that you are not pressing hard enough. If you press too hard, you will notice small debris flying away from the cut. They can get caught in the wheel and break or dull your cutter.
  • 5 Continue to run the cutter over the drawing until you have covered all of the lines.
  • 6 Place your pliers so that their bottom is touching the future cut on the mirror. The top of them should be about 1.3 cm from the cut line. Squeeze the pliers together, which will break the cut line and create a slit. From this gap, the line will disperse and further along the mirror according to your elaborated drawing.
  • 7 Cover the edges of the freshly cut mirror with mirror sealant or any other airtight coating. You can find these products at a hardware store. You can also use clear nail polish.
  • Tips

    • If you will be making straight lines, for example, for a square, then place the mirror on a flat surface so that the cut extends quite a bit beyond the edge of the table. Press down on the mirror, hold it firmly with one hand, and press down on the free piece with the other. This should give you a clean break easily.
    • If you need to cut very little, look for a steel ring cutter. It does all the same work as carbide casters and is often much cheaper. If, after using it, you put the wheel in oil, then it will last you much longer.
    • It may be helpful to buy a few pieces of a cheap mirror first to practice so you can become familiar with all the cutting techniques. Try glass that is clear on one side as it is easier to cut and usually the cheapest.
    • For rippled cuts, turn the mirror over and place it on a springy surface such as a piece of foam or cardboard. Press down on the line with your index finger, which should split the cut.
    • If you will be cutting a large number of mirrors, then get a glass cutter with a lubricant. It will last you longer, and in most cases, you can buy an extra wheel when the first becomes unusable. These cutters are often easier to use.
