PSP firmware controls the console's settings, and firmware updates will expand functionality, fix bugs, and fix vulnerabilities. There are several ways to update PSP firmware. If your console is connected to a network, you can update the firmware directly from your PSP. Otherwise, you will have to use a computer or a disc with a firmware update. If you want to use Homebrew, you need to install modified firmware on your PSP.

Steps

Method 1 of 4: On PSP

1. 1 Connect your PSP to a wireless network. Do this to download the update files.
   • Otherwise, proceed to the next section.
2. 2 Open the Settings menu. It is located on the left side of the XMB.
3. 3 Select "System Update". It's an option at the top of the settings menu.
4. 4 Select "Update via Internet".
5. 5 Select your network connection. If there are no networks listed, first connect your PSP to your wireless network.
6. 6 Download all available updates. The console will automatically find them - press "X" to start the download process.
7. 7 Update your firmware. When the update is downloaded, you will be prompted to install it - to do this, press "X".
   • If you want to install the update later, go to Settings> System Update> Update via Media.

Method 2 of 4: On the computer

1. 1 Create a new folder on your desktop. Name her PSP (in capital letters).
2. 2 Open the folder PSP and create a folder in it GAME (in capital letters).
3. 3 Open the folder GAME and create a folder in it UPDATE (in capital letters).
4. 4 Download the latest firmware from this site.
   • The downloaded file must be named EBOOT.PBP.
   • Latest firmware version 6.61
5. 5 Copy the downloaded file to a folder UPDATE.
6. 6 Connect your PSP to your computer using a USB cable, or insert the Memory Stick Duo into your computer's card reader.
   • If you've connected your PSP to your computer, open the Settings menu and select USB Connection.
7. 7 Open the contents of the Memory Stick Duo. When you connect your PSP to your computer or insert a memory card into it, you will be prompted to open the contents of the card; otherwise, open the Computer window and click on Ms Duo.
8. 8 Copy the created folder PSP to the memory card. There may already be a folder on the card PSP; in this case, overwrite it. The update will be added to the PSP.
9. 9 Disconnect your PSP or memory card from your computer.
10. 10 Go to the Games menu on the XMB.
11. 11 Select the "Memory Card" option.
12. 12 Select the update file. The PSP firmware will be updated.

Method 3 of 4: Using a UMD disk

1. 1 Insert the update UMD disc. Some games contain firmware updates. The latest firmware version included in UMD is 6.37.
2. 2 Open the Game menu.
3. 3 Select Update Ver.X.XX". Instead of X you will see the update version.The update is marked with the UMD icon and is located under the game in the Game menu.
4. 4 Follow the instructions on the screen to update the firmware.

Method 4 of 4: How to Install Modified Firmware

1. 1 Make sure the console firmware is updated to version 6.60. To do this, follow one of the above methods. This is required to install modified (custom, custom) firmware.
2. 2 Download the Pro CFW files. These are modified firmware files that can be used to use Homebrew programs on the PSP. These files can be found on the Internet.
   • Be sure to download the latest version of the files that is compatible with version 6.60.
3. 3 Unpack the "Pro CFW" archive. A standard folder structure will be created PSP / GAME... In folder GAME you will find the modified firmware files.
4. 4 Connect your PSP to your computer using a USB cable, or insert the Memory Stick Duo into your computer's card reader.
   • If you've connected your PSP to your computer, open the Settings menu and select USB Connection.
5. 5 Open the contents of the Memory Stick Duo. When you connect your PSP to your computer or insert a memory card into it, you will be prompted to open the contents of the card; otherwise, open the Computer window and click on Ms Duo.
6. 6 Copy the extracted folder PSP / GAME to the memory card.
7. 7 Disconnect your PSP or memory card from your computer. Now insert the card into the PSP.
8. 8 Go to the Game menu and launch the Pro Update application. Follow the instructions on the screen to install the modified firmware.
9. 9 Choose "Quick Recovery" every time you reboot the system. The specified option is in the "Game" menu; this is required for the console to accept the modified firmware when the PSP restarts.

Warnings

• Do not turn off the PSP while updating the firmware; otherwise, nothing will come of it.
