Instagram is an image sharing app that was released in October 2010 and currently supports 25 languages. Instagram allows you to stay in touch with your friends and follow the changes in their lives. In this article, you will learn how to download and install Instagram. You will also familiarize yourself with the application interface and learn how to upload photos.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Install Instagram

  1. 1 Download the Instagram app. To do this, enter “Instagram” into the search bar of the app store (App Store on iOS or Google Play Store on Android), and then click on the corresponding search result.
  2. 2 Start Instagram. To do this, click on the application icon (it looks like a multi-colored camera) on one of the desktops.
  3. 3 Register an account by clicking on the Register button at the bottom of the screen. You will then need to enter your email address, username, password, and phone number (optional, but desirable). Before proceeding, you will have the option to select a profile picture.
    • In the "About" section, you can enter some personal information, including your first name, last name, or your personal site address.
    • If you already have an Instagram account, click on the Login button at the bottom of the login page and enter your credentials.
  4. 4 Subscribe to friends. When you're done creating your account, you will be able to find friends from your contact list, Facebook account, Twitter account, or through a search query. Before selecting friends from your Facebook or Twitter accounts, you will have to provide Instagram with the credentials (email and password) of these social networks.
    • If you want, subscribe to the recommended Instagram users by clicking on the "Subscribe" button next to their names.
    • When you subscribe to users, their posts will start to appear on your home page.
    • Friends can be added at any time convenient for you, even after creating an account.
  5. 5 Click Finish to proceed. You will be taken to your home page, where you will see the posts of the people you have decided to subscribe to.

Part 2 of 3: Working with tabs

  1. 1 Home tab. This tab is where you start working with Instagram. This is your feed where posts from users you follow will appear. Here's what you can do:
    • Click on the + icon in the upper left corner of the screen to write and publish a post for all your followers. For this to work, Instagram needs to access the microphone and camera.
    • Click on the delta symbol in the upper right corner of the screen to open your inbox. Private messages will be stored here.
  2. 2 Go to the Search page by clicking the magnifying glass icon to the right of the Home tab at the bottom of the screen. Here you can find accounts and keywords by entering your search term in the Find box at the top of the screen.
    • This page also displays posts by celebrities (just below the search field).
  3. 3 Show your account activity by clicking on the heart icon. It is located two icons to the right of the magnifying glass. This page displays all notifications (for example, likes and comments to the photo, requests to add friends, etc.).
  4. 4 Open your profile page by clicking on the account icon. This icon looks like a silhouette of a person and is located in the lower right corner of the screen. Here's what you can do:
    • Click on the + icon in the upper left corner of the screen to add friends from Facebook and your contact list.
    • Click on the three horizontal lines icon (☰) in the upper right corner, and then on the gear icon ⋮ at the bottom of the screen. Here you can change your account settings and add friends or other social media accounts.
    • Click on Edit Profile to the right of your profile picture to change your name or username, add your bio or website, and change personal information (such as your phone number or email address).
  5. 5 Click on the house icon to return to the Home tab. This icon is located in the lower left corner of the screen. If someone you follow has posted a new post since your last visit, their content will appear here automatically. SPECIALIST'S ADVICE

Part 3 of 3: Adding Photos

  1. 1 Click on the + button to post the snapshot. Then add the existing photos from the film or take a new one.
  2. 2 Take a look at the camera options. There are three download options at the bottom of the page:
    • Gallery - this option allows you to upload photos that are already in the gallery.
    • Photo - here you can take a new photo using the Instagram camera. Before taking a photo, open the camera to the application.
    • Video - here you can shoot a video using the Instagram camera. Before you can take a video, you need to give the app access to the camera.
  3. 3 Select a photo or take a photo. If you decide to take a photo or video, click on the round button at the bottom of the screen.
    • If you choose to select an existing photo, click Next in the upper right corner of the screen to continue.
  4. 4 Select a filter for your photo. This can be done at the bottom of the screen. As of today, up to 11 filters are available on Instagram. They are designed to make boring photography more interesting. You can even download new filters if you want. Filters allow you to change the color palette and composition of your photo. For example, applying the "Moon" filter will make your photo black and white.
    • Click on Change in the lower right corner of the screen to adjust photo parameters such as Brightness, Contrast and Detail.
  5. 5 Tap Next in the upper right corner of the screen.
  6. 6 Enter a caption for the photo. This can be done in the Enter Signature field at the top of the screen.
    • If you want to add tags to a photo, you can do this in the same field.
  7. 7 Check out other options. Before posting a photo, you have the following actions:
    • Click on People Tags to tag users in a photo.
    • Click on Add Location to add your current location to the photo description. To do this, you need to open the application access to geodata.
    • Post the photo to Facebook, Twitter, VKontakte, or OK.ru by setting the slider to the On position. Before posting a photo, link external social media accounts to Instagram.
  8. 8 Click Share in the upper right corner of the screen. Congratulations! You have successfully posted your first photo to Instagram!

Tips

  • If you want to get a lot of subscribers, then you should take pictures of unique things and find users who agree to "shutout" (PR by agreement).
  • You can go to Instagram on a computer, but in the desktop version of the site, you cannot update your account and add photos. All this is possible only in the Instagram mobile application.

Warnings

  • Do not post photos that contain personal information, especially if you have not properly configured your privacy settings. Personal information includes your home address and contact details (such as a passport photo).
  • When you try to add your location to a photo, Instagram will ask you to Allow or Deny access to the device's geodata.
