Your wedding ring is a symbol of love, trust, devotion, fidelity, and possibly a religious attribute. Wearing a wedding ring also lets others know that you and your spouse are totally committed to each other. But you don't have to wear your wedding ring just by putting it on your finger. If your fingers are swollen or injured, you may not be able to put it on as usual. And in some professions or sports, such as climbing or working with machinery, wearing a ring can increase the risk of serious injury.

Method 1 of 3: The traditional way

1. 1 Wear your wedding ring on the ring finger of your left hand. This tradition comes from the ancient Roman belief that the left hand is closer to the heart.
   • However, in many countries, for example, in Germany, the wedding ring is traditionally worn on the right, not on the left hand.

Method 2 of 3: With an engagement ring

1. 1 Place your wedding ring first on the ring finger of your left hand, and then the engagement ring on the same finger, aligning it with your engagement ring.
   • Someone thinks that the wedding ring should be worn first in order to be closer to the heart. But there is an opinion that if the ring, donated in honor of the engagement, is worn at the beginning, then such an arrangement of the rings will tell the whole story of your love from courtship to wedding in the correct order. So whether or not to wear an engagement ring and how to wear it is up to you.
   • This method is good if both rings are smooth, or one of them is heavily decorated. If both rings have a pronounced ornament, it would be better to put the wedding ring on the left hand and the other on the right hand.

Method 3 of 3: On the necklace

1. 1 Pass a beautiful chain through your wedding ring and put it around your neck as a pendant.
   • If you work with machinery, then assess the degree of safety of this method of wearing the ring. In some cases, it is necessary to remove all jewelry before work, in which case, you can put it back on when finished.

• Although it is common practice to wear a wedding ring on the ring finger of the left hand, many people choose to wear it on the other hand or on a chain. Therefore, if you see that a person does not have a ring on his left hand, this does not mean that he is single.
• If you or your spouse is involved in an activity in which wearing the ring may increase your risk of injury, come up with an alternate symbol of your love that is safer to wear.For example, some couples do not attach importance to tradition and wear wedding bracelets or necklaces and even get tattoos as a sign of devotion to each other.
• If your spouse is from a culture that doesn't have wedding rings, you may find it more comfortable to wear wedding rings on other fingers or a chain.
