Writing a letter to Santa is a super fun Christmas tradition. A well-written letter shows Santa that you are polite, plus it makes it easier for him to give you the presents you would like to receive. Because with all those millions of kids from around the world asking for presents, it's safe to say Santa is pretty busy. First, start thinking about what you'd like to get. Then write a polite letter, decorate it with beautiful drawings and / or stickers and give the letter to your parents when it is ready so that they can send it to the North Pole!

To step

Part 1 of 3: Prepare

  1. Make a list of the things you want to have a few days in advance. A few days before writing your letter to Santa, start writing down everything you think you might want. Then read your list every now and then to make sure you haven't forgotten anything or to change anything. Cross out the things you're not particularly fond of so that you're only left with the things you really want and your list doesn't get too long.
    • Santa gets a ton of letters from kids all over the world, so sometimes he can't give a child everything on his or her wish list. That is why it is important that you only write down the things that you would most like to have.
  2. Put on some Christmas carols. To get in the mood for a bit, nothing beats a little Christmas music in the background! You can play Christmas music on the radio, your phone or even a computer. Ask your parents for help if necessary.
  3. Choose your stationery. You can keep it simple and just take a sheet of white paper, or you can take it a little more adventurous! Colorful stationery works well. Whichever paper you choose, make sure to get a few sheets in case you make mistakes.
    • Ask your parents if they have nice paper for you to use.
    • You can also use a nice store bought Christmas card if you prefer. Talk to your parents to see what the options are.
  4. Choose what you want to write with. You can just take a pen or a pencil, but it might be even more fun to use crayons, colored pencils or felt-tip pens as well. You can even combine different things, such as felt-tip pens and crayons, to make a super-colored letter.
    • Make sure you can write clearly and neatly with whatever writing implements you choose. Santa needs to be able to read your letter so he can bring you what you want!

Part 2 of 3: Write your letter

  1. Write down your address. Start by writing your full address in the top right corner of the page. Do this carefully so that Santa knows where to find you and so that he can write back a letter. Write the date on the second line.
    • Ask your parents for help if you are unsure of how to write your address.
  2. Begin your letter with "Dear Santa". This type of greeting is called a salutation. You should always start letters with a salutation, so this letter to Santa is a good practice for getting it right.
  3. Tell Santa who you are. Santa knows you of course, he watches you all year round! But he gets a lot of letters, so he needs to know which one is yours. Add your name, and if you want you can also tell him your age.
    • Write: "My name is _____. I am years old.'
  4. Ask Santa how he is. It's always polite to ask the person you're writing about how they're doing, so of course you will with Santa. You can also ask him, for example, how the weather has been in the North Pole, how his wife is doing, whether the reindeer enjoyed the food you put out for them last year.
    • Being nice to that sweet Santa is always good, he will be happy with it!
  5. Tell Santa about all the good things you've done this year. Santa is always very busy, so he may need to be reminded of what you've been up to.Tell him about how things are going at school, about the fun things you did with your family and friends, and that you listened carefully to your parents. And don't forget to be honest! Santa is always watching you a little bit so he'll know if you're not being honest.
    • You could write, "I helped my sister tie her shoe laces last week" or "I immediately cleaned up my room when my parents asked."
  6. Kindly ask Santa for what you would like. Reread the list you wrote a few days ago and decide which gifts you would most like to have. Then politely ask Santa for these things in your letter. Don't forget to add "please" too!
    • Write something like, "I'd like a new football, a scooter, and some cool sneakers."
  7. Ask for something for someone else, too, if you want. Yes, it is great fun getting presents from Santa at Christmas, but remember, Christmas is all about love and compassion. Think about the people in your life. Is there a wish or a gift that you would like to ask for for them?
    • Maybe your mom loves chocolate bars. You could ask Santa for some chocolate bars for her. Say something like, "I want Mom two chocolate bars too, because she loves them so much!"
    • Your wish doesn't have to be a gift - it can just be a beautiful wish for someone you love. You could wish a happy Christmas to everyone in your family or, say, that your brother's broken arm heals quickly.
  8. End by thanking Santa. It's a lot of work to bring so many presents to children around the world in a single night, so thank Santa for that.
    • You could say, "Thank you for being so kind and generous." I really like that! "
    • You could also write something like, "Amazing how you deliver so many presents to so many children every year, and all over the world. I think that's really great about you, thank you very much! "
  9. Put your signature at the bottom of the letter. Use a closing statement, such as: "best regards", "love" or "best wishes". Then put your name and signature underneath.
    • For example, you could sign your letter with "Love, Abby" - but with your own name, of course.

Part 3 of 3: Decorating and sending your letter

  1. Make a nice drawing. Now that you have finished writing your letter, you can decorate it however you want! Maybe you want to draw some Christmas trees, or a reindeer or a snowman. You can even draw a portrait of Santa yourself! Santa will love that!
    • Use crayons, felt-tip pens, colored pencils and / or pretty stickers to make all kinds of fun Christmas drawings and decorations.
    • If you make a few mistakes, don't worry. Santa doesn't think it necessary for everything to be perfect. But if you really want to start over, you just have to do it.
  2. Make a nice border around it. If you want, you can create a nice border around your letter. That border can be anything you want! You can draw a simple colored stripe around the letter, or create a nice border with stars or Christmas trees.
  3. Address the envelope. Ask your parents for an envelope and insert your letter. On the front of the envelope, write "To Santa, At the North Pole" in large, clear letters. That way the postman knows where to send the letter. When you're done with this, seal the envelope.
    • If you like that, you can also decorate the envelope nicely!
  4. Give the letter to your parents to send it to. They will ensure that your letter gets to Santa. Soon your letter will be on its way to the North Pole! Santa will be impressed with all the work you put into writing and decorating your letter.
    • It might be cool to ask your parents to show you the North Pole on a map so you can see where your letter is going. It looks very cold in there, don't you think?

Tips

  • Use a capital letter for the first letter of a name.
  • Write your letter in early December so that he will get to Santa in plenty of time.
  • Write a draft first, to practice.
  • Be polite, don't say "I want ___" but "I want to".
  • Have faith in Santa. If you didn't get something you wanted, it might have been too big or too expensive. There are many children for whom he has to buy or make presents.
  • Always be polite when writing a letter to Santa.
  • Check that you have not made any language errors, or have an adult check it for you.
  • Don't be greedy.
  • Remember what you want and don't wait until the last minute to write your letter.
  • Make sure your letter is finished before Christmas.
  • Don't forget to behave well all year round.
  • Say, "May I please ..." Don't say, "Give me ..." or, "I want ...".
