Despite the lack of the ability to import contacts to YouTube, the simplest online investigation will allow you to find your friends' channels. If any of your friends created their YouTube channel before the summer of 2015, they will most likely be linked to their Google+ profile. If your friend has entered their full name on their YouTube profile, you can easily find them using the built-in YouTube search. Thanks to a new feature in the YouTube mobile app (not officially released yet) called Shared Videos, some users can add friends as contacts.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Using YouTube Search

  1. 1 Enter your friend's name in the YouTube search box. If your friend entered their real name on their YouTube account, a search will find it. Search on YouTube or the mobile app.
    • If you know your friend's username, enter it.
    • To start searching in the mobile application, click on the magnifying glass icon to open the search window.
  2. 2 Click or tap the magnifying glass search icon. When the search is complete, a list of results is displayed on the screen.
  3. 3 Filter your search results by channel. A YouTube channel is a user's home page. If your friend has uploaded any content, left a comment, or created a playlist, they definitely have a channel. Click on "Filter" at the top of the search results and select "Channel" under the "Type" section.
    • In the application, click on the icon in the upper right corner (three horizontal lines with vertical dashes), select "Channels" in the "Content Type" drop-down list.
  4. 4 Find your friend's channel. If your friend has a common name, multiple channels may appear in the search results. Check out each channel by clicking on the profile photo to the right of the name.
  5. 5 Subscribe to your friend's channel. When you find your friend, subscribe to his channel by clicking on the red "Subscribe" button. This button is at the top of the user's feed.

Method 2 of 3: Via a Google+ profile

  1. 1 Open the site Google+ in the browser. While you can't import Google contacts to YouTube, you can often find your friends on YouTube by looking at their Google+ profiles. If your friend's YouTube account was created before the summer of 2015, their Google+ profile should have a link to it.
    • You will need a Google Account to use this method.
  2. 2 Sign in to your Google account. Click "Login" in the upper right corner of the screen and enter your credentials.
    • If you're already signed in, your Google profile photo will be in the top right corner of Google+.
  3. 3 Click on the Ribbon drop-down menu to expand it.
  4. 4 Select "People". Here you can see a list of alleged acquaintances, as well as a menu on the left side of the screen.
  5. 5 Select "Gmail Contacts" from the menu on the left. If you have contacts in Gmail, this is how you can find their Google+ profiles. This will bring up a list of Gmail contacts with links to their Google+ profiles.
    • If you've ever been active on Google+, open the Subscriptions or Followers section at the top of the page. Both options will display a list of user profiles.
    • If you're looking for a specific friend, try entering their name in the search box at the top of the page. Sometimes it is useful to add the city where the person lives, for example: "Sergey Shnurov, Leningrad".
  6. 6 Click on a friend's name to view their profile. At the top of the profile page is a huge header, on the left side of which is a profile photo.
  7. 7 Click YouTube in the menu bar just below the header. If this person has posted publicly available videos on YouTube, they will appear under the title. Notice the line “Posts by [friend's name]” next to the red YouTube symbol below the title.
    • If there is no YouTube link under the image, then this method will not help you find that user's YouTube channel.
  8. 8 Click on YouTube Channel under [friend's name] 's posts. This will take you to your friend's YouTube profile page.
  9. 9 Click Subscribe to follow your friend's feed. It's a red button in the top right corner of the page.

Method 3 of 3: Via Shared YouTube Videos

  1. 1 Open the YouTube app on your mobile device. YouTube has a new Shared Videos feature that allows mobile app users to share videos and chat with YouTube Contacts. Android Police claims that this feature is not yet available to all users, but it may suddenly appear in your application.
  2. 2 Click on the Share icon. If the main panel has a text cloud icon with an arrow pointing to the right, this method may come in handy.
  3. 3 Click Contacts. Before you can chat with your friends (and send them videos) on YouTube, you need to add that friend to your YouTube contact list.
  4. 4 Open the section "You May Know". This list of YouTube users is made up of your Google contacts and other people you have corresponded with.
  5. 5 Click "Invite" to invite a friend. The Invite icon looks like a silhouette of a person with a plus and is located under the contact's name.
    • Before you can share a video with this person, they must first approve your request. To do this, their mobile device must also have the YouTube mobile app installed.
    • The invitation will expire after 72 hours.
  6. 6 Click "+ Add Contacts" to find other friends. If the person you want to share with isn't listed in the “Maybe You Know” list, create an invitation that everyone can see. When the URL appears, click Send Invitation, then select the application through which you want to send the link.
  7. 7 Browse your contact feeds. When contacts are added (and approve of your invitation), browse their YouTube channels by going to the General tab and then selecting Contacts.
    • To share a video with your contacts, click Share under any YouTube video, and then select one of your YouTube contacts.

Tips

  • To manage your YouTube subscriptions, click on “Subscriptions” on the YouTube home page or on the “Subscriptions” icon (folder with a “Launch” symbol) in the mobile app.
  • If one of the users on YouTube bothers you, block him. Open his channel in a browser and click "About channel". Then click on the flag icon in the upper right corner of the channel description and select "Block user".
