Ever wanted to call a friend, family member or girlfriend without using the Phone app? In this article, we'll show you how to make video and voice calls from iPhone using FaceTime.

Steps

Part 1 of 2: How to turn on FaceTime

1. 1 Launch the Settings app on the iPhone. Tap the gear-shaped icon on the home screen.
   • This application can also be found in the Utilities folder.
2. 2 Scroll down and tap FaceTime.
3. 3 Move the slider next to FaceTime to the On position. It turns green, which means FaceTime is on.
4. 4 Make sure your phone number is ticked. It should be listed under Your FaceTime Address.
   • Since you have an iPhone, FaceTime will automatically register your phone number.
   • If you'd like to register your email address as well, tap your Apple ID for FaceTime and sign in.

Part 2 of 2: How to make a FaceTime call

1. 1 Press the Home button. This large, round button is located below the iPhone screen.
2. 2 Tap the FaceTime icon. It looks like a camera on a green background; the icon is on the home screen.
3. 3 Click +.
4. 4 Find and tap the contact's name. Scroll through your contacts or enter a name in the text box next to the magnifying glass at the top of the screen.
5. 5 Tap the video call icon next to the contact's name. The icon looks like a camera.
   • If the video call icon is gray, it means that the contact's device does not have FaceTime.
   • If the video call icon is blue, it means that the contact has FaceTime. That is, you can communicate with a person via FaceTime.
   • You can also tap the phone-shaped icon to make a voice call over FaceTime.
6. 6 Wait for the person to answer your video call. In this case, the person will appear on the screen, and you will appear in the preview window in the upper right corner of the screen.
7. 7 Click the Finish button to disconnect. It is marked with a handset icon on a red background.
   • If there is no such icon, tap anywhere on the screen.

Tips

• The preview window can be moved to any point on the screen.
• FaceTime calls over the air provide a clearer picture without wasting mobile data.

Warnings

• You can only make FaceTime calls to people who have FaceTime (iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch) and are connected to a wireless network or mobile internet.
• FaceTime may not be available on devices purchased in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Pakistan.
