Depending on the species, cockroaches can be large or small, living alone or in groups. Method 1 of 3: Determine the habitat of cockroaches in your apartment

1 Set traps. This will help you determine the extent of the problem and where the cockroaches live.
- Purchase inexpensive duct tape traps from your local hardware store or supermarket.
- Make the traps yourself. Apply kerosene jelly to the edges of an empty glass jar to keep cockroaches from getting out. Place a slice of white bread in the jar as bait.

1 Start with natural insecticides. The most popular are: (1) Diatom powder (crushed flint shell of the remains of diatoms), a very fine abrasive that kills insects and is completely harmless to animals and (2) boric acid (H₃BO₃). Both of these products contain boron, a natural insecticide. Mammals are not attracted to these substances and they do not eat them.
- Apply a small amount of these substances to surfaces near cockroach habitats. Boric acid is effective because it is a poison for cockroaches. But diatomaceous powder acts faster because it clogs under the shell, in the joints and pores. Cockroaches do not develop resistance to boron products and diatomaceous earth.
2 Set baits. The use of insecticidal baits will allow you not to apply poison throughout the apartment. Combat and Maxforce brands have proven themselves quite well.
- Change the bait regularly. If there are a lot of cockroaches, then the bait will be eaten pretty quickly.
- Use an insecticide containing hydramethylone. It is an effective means of killing cockroaches within 3 days from the moment the cockroach ate it.
3 Use the services of a professional pest control. These specialists have powerful insecticides that cannot be bought at a regular store.

Method 3 of 3: Keeping cockroaches away from your apartment

1 Contact the organization serving your home (housing office, utility company, cooperative, and so on). Even if you have destroyed cockroaches in your apartment, but in general the house is not processed, then they will return again and again.
2 Cut off access to food for cockroaches. They love carbohydrates and sugars found in food, soap, and even houseplants.
