Someday you will notice that your hermit crab isn't all that hygienic. It must be redeemed!

Steps

  1. 1 Fill a large container with room temperature dechlorinated water. Make sure the container is large enough for your pet to be completely submerged in the liquid.
  2. 2 Place the hermit crab in a container and let the water fill its shell. Please note that your pet must be upright. Dirt, food and other small debris will be washed out. Repeat this procedure if the sink is very dirty. If you are keeping a hermit crab in the sand, be sure to do the same twice. This will remove the sand from the sink.
  3. 3 Let the hermit crab sit in the water for a few minutes, then place it in a small container with a towel to walk around. It will also be useful to change the house. New shells (pre-boiled in salt water and dried) should be placed in the same container. Hermit crabs, as a rule, are very careful and meticulous in choosing their housing. For them, it's like a shopping trip.
  4. 4 Some hermit crabs' owners bathe them once every two weeks, while others prefer to provide their pets with large bowls of water so that they can wash themselves. If you choose the second method, ALWAYS put pebbles and sponges on the bottom so that little hermit crabs can crawl out.
  5. 5 Do not bathe your pet too often, otherwise it will damage his health. Do not bathe your little friend at all if there is already a special bowl of water in the crabarium. It is easier to buy such a bowl at your nearest pet store than to bathe hermit crabs by hand. The main thing is to change the water in the container once or twice a week.
    • If the tank in which the pet lives is infected with ticks, then rinse it, and then bathe your pet in a special salt bath. Use salt for a saltwater aquarium that is available from a pet store.
  6. 6 Make the bath water as salty as possible (use a hydrometer or hydrometer to measure salinity so as not to harm the hermit crabs).
  7. 7 After the salt water bath, bathe the hermit crab in fresh dechlorinated water and let it dry.
  8. 8Buy salt for saltwater aquariums as soon as possible.

Tips

  • Be aware that most hermit crabs wash themselves with a bowl and do not need constant baths. The question arises: is it worth bathing them at all? The hermit crab should be bathed if you notice ticks or other small insects crawling along the shell.
  • Bathe your pet once a week to reduce the number of harmful insects. It is best to use salt baths.
  • Salt water is essential for hermit crabs to survive. Bathing in these tubs will help them feel great. Use a special salt for marine aquariums mixed with dechlorinated water.
  • Hermit crabs love to bury themselves in wet sand.
  • Always maintain an adequate amount of water in your crabarium.
  • Your pet will bathe itself with great pleasure. You need to bathe it yourself no more than once a month, alternating between fresh and salt water.
  • Dechlorination of water can be done using special products purchased at the pet store. Just follow the directions on the package. Always keep a jug or bottle of dechlorinated water near the crabarium and ensure that there is always enough water in the containers inside the crabarium.

Warnings

  • Make sure the water is at room temperature! You don't want to cook your pet. If you don't have a thermometer, let the water sit for a few hours. After carefully placing your pet in the water, do not forget about it.
  • Never use water directly from the tap! This can harm the hermit crabs. Buy bottled water.
  • Hermit crabs can store water directly in their shell and control its salinity. They use it to regulate their moisture, when they need to drink, or to waste fluid supplies when they are about to shed. Bathing changes the moisture supply and some people start to think that it can harm their pet. If you do not have special bowls for hermit crabs, then you can arrange the so-called "water games". Place them in a plastic container that contains bowls of water and other items so that your pet can climb in and out of the bowl himself. This way he can choose whether he needs bathing or not. You can use this time to clean the crabarium or change anything in it.
  • You can only use tap water if you dechlorinate it correctly.
  • Don't bathe your hermit crab too often. Use baths only when you really need to. It is best to purchase a special bowl and place it in the crabarium so that your pet can bathe on its own.
