iTunes will notify you when a new software update is available, but it will not be downloaded and installed unless you choose to update. If you find that you have declined an update notification and still want to update iTunes, you can do this manually in the program itself or online.

Method 1 of 3: Update iTunes on Mac

1. Open iTunes. Click on the iTunes icon on your dock. If you cannot find it, select Start from the Search menu, click Application (⇧ Shift+⌘ Command+a), scroll to iTunes and double-click it.
2. Check for updates. From the menu bar in iTunes, you need to click on iTunes and then Check for Updates. iTunes will now automatically check for updates. If an update is available, iTunes will ask to download the new version.
3. Download the update from iTunes. Click Download iTunes to install the latest version of iTunes.

Method 2 of 3: Update iTunes on Windows

1. Open iTunes. Double-click the iTunes icon on your desktop. If you can't find it, press ⊞ Win to open the Start menu or Start screen, and then type itunes in the search bar. Click iTunes in the list of program results.
2. Check for updates. From the iTunes menu bar, click Help, then Check for Updates. iTunes will now automatically check for updates. If an update is available, iTunes will ask to download the new version.
   • If the menu bar is not visible, press Control+B. to display it.
3. Download the update from iTunes. Click Download iTunes to install the latest version of iTunes.

Method 3 of 3: Update iTunes online

1. Go to the Apple iTunes download page. In an Internet browser, go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/.
2. Click Download Now. Click the blue Download Now button on the left side of the page to download iTunes. The web page will automatically select the most recent version of your operating system. You do not need to enter your email address unless you wish to register for Apple's list of marketing emails.
3. Install iTunes. When your download is complete, you need to open the downloaded file and follow the guidelines to install iTunes.

Tips

• You can see which version of iTunes you are currently using by selecting Help from the iTunes menu bar and then clicking About iTunes.
• If for any reason you prefer to revert to an older version of iTunes, remove iTunes from your computer and then download and install a previous version from Apple [http://support.apple.com/downloads/#itunes}.
