Building a fortress is fun for both children and adults. If you are in a wooded area it will be very interesting to build a fort in the woods and play there. Likewise, building a fort can give you a little joy on rainy days. Fortresses can be romantic places for adults, or they can be places full of privacy and adventure for kids. There are many easy ways to build a fortress.

Steps

Method 1 of 4: Prepare for the building of the fort

  1. Decide what material you want to use. Would you like to use outdoor construction materials? Or is it the interior of your own house? This decision will form a large part of the type of fortress you want to make. The great thing about a fort is that you can use whatever is available to create a great place to play. Armchairs, beds, bed sheets and blankets are great options for an indoor fort.

  2. Find out where to build the fortress. You will want a spacious location so that you can expand your fortress as you see fit. Building a fort in a closet is much more difficult than in a spacious living room. Likewise, if you are going to build it outdoors you will need to find a suitable place to build shelter. Look for locations that are not in danger of flooding or have fallen trees. If you want to build an outdoor fortress, try to find flat rocks protruding for the floor, or tree trunks shaped 'Y' to make the center of your roof. If a tree has fallen or uprooted you can use the hole left by the roots to build a fortress.
    • Wardrobes and corners are good places to build forts indoors.

  3. Please estimate the size of the fortress. The size of the fortress will determine where you build it and what will be needed. Try not to be too aggressive about the size of the fortress. That can make you lose the joy. Try to decide in advance how many people you want to fit inside your fortress. Would you like to lie down or stand in it? Think of these decisions as factors in what forms the fortress and where you build it. For example, if you want to stand in it you have to find very long branches and a very tall tree.

  4. Gather your materials together. Now it's time to start work! Decide what type of fortress you want to build and find materials to start with. Most of the forts were easily built, so it shouldn't be too much of a burden. However, you may need to spend a lot of time collecting blankets or cardboard boxes or tree branches. Take the time to gather the necessary materials before you start building. advertisement

Method 2 of 4: Build an indoor fortress

  1. Assembling a fort with bookshelves Clear positions to build a fortress then place two large and short bookshelves in place so they face each other. Place a cushion, foam sheet, pile of blankets, or soft mats on the floor between two bookshelves. You can build a roof by placing a board, bed sheet or other objects on top of two bookshelves if you want to build a roof.
  2. Build fortresses with chairs and tables. Remember to always start with cleaning up space for your fortress. You may want to build it somewhere close to an armchair to help you move a lot of things. The seats will usually be most suitable.
    • Place a table facing the chair a few steps away so that their lengths are parallel. A dining table of any size will work, but usually a rectangular table with 4 seats will work best.
    • Remove the pads from the chair and place them on the floor, between or under the chair and table. If you can remove the backrest, do the same.
    • Take a large bed sheet and place one of its length edges on the armrest of the chair and put it in there. Insert the other side of the gas station into the other side of the table. Re-insert the sheet by placing heavy objects on it, like some books. Use enough gas to cover the sides or to cover the front of the table. Remember to insert these sheets as well.
  3. Build a fort on the bed with blankets. This type of fortress is very simple and has the advantage that playing in your bed will be very quiet. all you need to do is place the sheets on the ceiling above the bed. Place it at the end of your bed and the headboard. Now climb into bed and put the sheets on either side of the bed. Get underneath the sheets and you've got a fortress in bed! advertisement

Method 3 of 4: Build an outdoor fortress

  1. Build fort with cardboard boxes. Find a suitable location for your fort. You may want to find a place that is protected from wind or rain or natural phenomena. A cardboard box is suitable for both outdoor and indoor fortresses, but outdoors you will have more space to expand your fortress. Take out cardboard boxes, as big as possible. You can get them for free by going to your local grocery, furniture or material stores and asking for more. It may take several weeks to collect enough.
    • Cut a few boxes out to make flat sheets. You will want to use both cartons that are intact and those that have been cut off.
    • Build the wall. You can arrange boxes that are still intact for walls and other structures. Use flat panels for roof or background. Super large bins can be turned into a private room, if you have them. Use glue, staples, ropes, ribbons, and heavy objects to hold your fortress together.
  2. Build a fort with wire and cloth. Find two plants that are close together and hang a clothesline or string between them. The height at which you hang the rope will be the height of the roof of the fortress, so decide which fortress height you want. Now all you need to do is squeeze the cloth over the clothesline and fix the sides to the ground. Great! You've got a fort.
  3. Build a fort with sticks and logs. This is a familiar idea when you are young and often play around in the woods. Look for a very large tree that has collapsed but still leaves space between the trunk and the ground. Usually this is caused by the roots of the plant that are still deep in the ground when it is dropped. Collect lots of large branches and place them around the trunk closest to the base of the tree. Continue adding as many branches as you spread out from the base of the tree. If desired, leave a gap between the branches to create a path. You can also enter from the front underneath the tree, or cover the entrance with a cloth.
    • The branches you put on will be your wall and the trunk will be the roof. It's a basic fort, but building it will be fun.
  4. Build a basic canopy fortress. Find a tree with low branches and a trunk small enough that you can put your arms around it. You will want your hands to be able to touch as you wrap around the tree trunk. The branches should be low so that you can put the branches up without slipping down.
    • Collect branches and sticks of the right length and erect them from the trunk at an angle. If you want more space inside your fortress, place the branches at a lower angle. Make sure they don't slide down. Try to fix the branches to the branches still on the trunk.
    • When you are done with the first layer of branches you can tie a rope around the trunk and the branches you put in to fix them.
    • Please leave an entrance. Don't cover the entire trunk - you will need to get inside your fortress too.

Method 4 of 4: Perfect your fortress

  1. Add flashing lights to your fortress, but be careful when using lights that are too hot. Christmas lights are the right kind of lights. Please choose the type of lamp you like. You can hang large flashing lights for outdoors or small, colorful lights. Make sure you place them near the entrance. This will scale to your fortress new, and you can use it at night.
  2. Add art to your fortress. You can draw pictures on a cardboard wall, or attach the paintings to the bed sheet, or add a little sculpture on a wooden fortress. Be creative. Art will make your fortress more unique and feel more like a home.
  3. Build your fortress near the entrance so you can move the TV, computer, or other electronics in. An armchair fort is great for this, as you can place the TV on a chair, install it and then lie down in front of it.
  4. Invite friends. Fortresses are always more fun if they have more friends. Building a fortress is also more fun to work with friends, so you should consider inviting more people along with you along the way. advertisement

Advice

  • Ask a parent or sibling for help if you want to use staples, paints, or knives.
  • You can make the roof taller if you want by adding a pillar in the middle.
  • Try a warehouse and ask your parents to help clean it up. Then you can place two wooden slats facing each other. Place a blanket over it and keep them in that position by placing a pillow or whatever.
  • Make sure you don't pour colored drinks or junk food into your fort or else it will create stains and your parents probably won't be satisfied with that.
  • Cardboard is also great for roofing.
