Using the speakerphone at home, office or on a cell phone is sometimes convenient, but it's important to know how to turn it off if you accidentally turn it on or switch to the internal speaker without having to hang up. It can be annoying if your phone is set to default using the speakerphone and you have to turn it off every time someone calls. Here's how to turn off the default speakerphone setting on iPhone and Android, as well as how to turn off speakerphone of some popular landline phones.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Turn off speakerphone on iPhone

1. 

   Turn off the speakerphone while on the phone. It's important to know how to turn off the speakerphone while on the phone without having to hang up.
   • Press the Speaker button, the highlighted circle on the iPhone screen. This button has a speaker icon and the word "Speaker" below it. By disabling this feature, the amplified sound from the iPhone speaker is reduced and returned to normal phone mode.
     • If your iPhone always answers the call through the speakerphone, you may need to perform the following steps to turn off the default speakerphone option.

   Open the iPhone Accessibility options. Accessibility options help users fine-tune the phone to suit your audiovisual needs and preferences, or based on the environment in which you normally use the iPhone.
   • Unlock iPhone and tap on the icon Settings (Setting).
   • Scroll down and tap the option General (General).
   • Scroll down and tap the option Accessibility.

   Turn off the default speaker. Apple has set options so that calls are always answered via headphones, speakerphone, or automatically. You can select one of these options if you live in a place where hands-free driving is needed.
   • Scroll down and tap the option Call Audio Routing (Call audio routing).
   • Choose Automatic (Auto) from the menu, a checkmark will appear next to the option.

Method 2 of 3: Turn off speakerphone on Android

   Turn off the speakerphone while on the phone. It's important to know how to turn off the speakerphone while on the phone without having to hang up.
   • Tap the speaker icon at the bottom left of the Android screen. The amplified sound from the Android speaker decreases and returns to normal phone mode.
     • If Android always answers calls through the speakerphone, you may need to take the following steps to turn off the default speakerphone option.

   Access the Application Manager section on Android. Application Manager allows us to customize our Android device, including disabling apps that you don't use.
   • Unlock Android phone and tap on the icon Settings.
   • Click on the card Device (Device).
   • Click Applications (Application).
   • Click Applications Manager.

   Turn off the default speakerphone. To do this, you need to visit S Voice Settings. S Voice is a voice recognition application that accepts the user's voice commands to operate features on the phone without having to use your hands.
   • Click S Voice Settings.
   • Turn off the option Auto Start Speakerphone (Automatically start the speaker).
     • If the speakerphone on your Android phone continues to be the default, proceed with the following steps to disable S Voice.

   Disables S Voice. When S Voice is disabled, you will not be able to use the voice recognition software to operate some of the phone's hands-free features.
   • When S Voice Settings is disabled then feature Voice Wake-up (Wake up by voice) and Voice Feedback (Voice feedback) will also be turned off.
   • Disable S Voice by pressing the button Turn Off / Disable (Disable / disable).

Method 3 of 3: Turn off speakerphone on landline

1. 

   Turn off wired phone speakerphone. It's important to know how to turn off the speakerphone while on the phone without interrupting the call.
   • Lift up the receiver. When you lift the receiver, the wired landline automatically switches the call to the handset's internal speaker.
   • Press the speaker button. If a landline phone has a built-in receiver, you just need to press the button “Speakerphone” on the phone, then the call will automatically switch to the internal speaker.

2. 

   Turn off the wireless phone speakerphone. With cordless phones, the method to turn off the speakerphone during a call is sometimes not as intuitive as a wired phone.
   • Press the Talk button. On a wireless landline phone (eg Panasonic KX-TGE233B), when we press the “Talk” button on the handle, the sound will automatically switch to the phone's internal speaker.
