Through this article, you will learn how to turn off the "Work Offline" feature of the Microsoft Outlook desktop program.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: On Windows

1. 

   Open Outlook. Double-click the Outlook app with the white "O" symbol on a dark blue background.

   Make sure Outlook is offline. Here are two signs to help you know Outlook is in "Work Offline" mode:
   • The "Working Offline" box will appear in the lower-right corner of the Outlook window.
   • A white "X" on a red circle will appear in the Outlook icon on the taskbar (Windows only).

   Click the card Send / Receive (Send and receive). This option shows up in the blue section at the top of the Outlook window. You will see a toolbar at the top of the window.

   Secured button Work Offline has been turned on. This is the selection in the far right corner of the toolbar Send / Receive. This button will be dark gray if enabled.
   • If the button is not dark gray, the "Work Offline" mode is not enabled.

   Left click the button Work Offline. This is the button on the far right of the toolbar.
   • If the button is not already on, try left-clicking on it twice - once to enable "Work Offline" and the other time to turn it off - before continuing.

   Wait for the "Working Offline" message to disappear. When the tab disappeared from the lower-right corner of the window, Outlook went online.
   • You must turn on and off the "Work Offline" feature a few times before "Work Offline" is completely turned off.

Method 2 of 2: On a Mac

1. 

   Open Outlook. Click or double-click the Outlook app with a white "O" icon on a dark blue background.

2. 

   Click Outlook. This is the menu bar at the top of the screen. You will see a menu appear here.

3. 

   Click Work Offline (Work offline). It is the third option in the currently displayed menu. When Outlook is offline, you'll see a check mark next to "Work Offline" in the main Outlook menu. To turn off offline mode, make sure there is no check mark next to "Work Offline" in the main Outlook menu that appears. advertisement

Advice

• Make sure your computer is connected to the Internet when you turn off "Work Offline" mode.

Warning

• You can't change offline settings on the Microsoft Outlook mobile app or desktop website.
• If your computer does not have an Internet connection, you cannot turn off "Work Offline".
