This wikiHow teaches you how to turn off driving mode (or driving mode) on iPhone and Android phones. Driving mode is a setting that will turn off notifications on your phone when it detects you are traveling in traffic.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: On an iPhone

1. Temporarily turn off driving mode. On an iPhone, "driving mode" is actually a "Do Not Disturb" feature. You can turn off Do Not Disturb mode by:
   • Swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
   • Click on the icon

     

     "Do Not Disturb" is purple.
2. Open the app

   

   
   
   on iPhone. Click the gray gear icon Settings.
3. Scroll down and tap

   

   Do Not Disturb. A moon-shaped icon is near the top of the Settings page.
4. Scroll down to the "DO NOT DISTURB WHILE DRIVING" section (DO NOT DRIVE WHILE DRIVING). This option is near the bottom of the page.
5. Click Activate (Activation) below the "DO NOT DISTURB WHILE DRIVING" heading.
6. Click Manually (Handmade). This option is at the bottom of the menu. This is to ensure that the Do Not Disturb mode will only activate when manually selected.
7. Turn off Do Not Disturb when necessary. If Do Not Disturb is on, press the "Back" button in the top left corner of the screen, then scroll up and hit the green "Do Not Disturb" switch.
   • You can only use the Control Center to disable Driving Mode as instructed in the first step of this section.

Method 2 of 2: On Android

1. Open the quick settings menu. Use two fingers to swipe down from the top of the screen. A drop-down menu will appear.
2. Look for the message "Driving mode" or "Do not disturb". When Android starts driving mode, a notification appears in the bar.
   • If you use Samsung Galaxy, just tap the icon Do not disturb color in the drop-down menu to disable driving mode. You may need confirmation.
3. Click on the notification. The settings page for driving mode will appear.
4. Click on the colored button next to "On" or "Do not disturb". Usually you look near the top of the screen, but each Android product line will have different options for driving mode. When the button is pressed, the driving mode turns off during this time.
5. Completely disable driving mode on Android device. Unfortunately, the act of permanently disabling driving mode on Android products varies somewhat; however, the easiest way to find the driving mode settings is to go to the Settings app:
   • Open Settings.
   • Tap the search bar or the icon

     

     
     
     Then look for the keywords "driving" or "do not disturb".
   • Choose the setting related to automatically activating the driving mode while in the car.
   • Turn off setting.
6. Disable driving mode on Google Android device. For example, on Pixel 2, open Settings and tap Sound (Sound), press Do Not Disturb preferences (Customize Do Not Disturb), select Driving, and click DELETE (Delete) on the "Driving" rule page.
   • You may need to turn Do Not Disturb off first to delete the "Driving" rule.
   • If you don't have the "Driving" rule set up, driving mode won't turn on on your Pixel phone.

Advice

• Driving mode will not normally activate on Android if you have not actively set it up first.

Warning

• Unfortunately, it may take a few attempts to completely disable the driving mode on Android as the process varies from phone to phone.
