Google is one of the best sources for downloading books on the Internet, allowing you to choose what you want to read from a variety of sources and access them on your computer or in an e-reader. Downloading Google books can be a bit tricky for you, especially if you want to use them on a lot of other devices. You can download books such as EPUB or PDF, but you may need to remove the copy protection after downloading.

Steps

Before start

1. Understand what can be downloaded. There are basically two types of Google Books: a search engine and an online reader, Google Books, and the Google Play Books store. There is very little connection between the two, but all the books purchased will be in the library of Google Play Books. Regardless of which service you are using, you can only download books you have purchased, or books available for free.
   • You cannot download any book in Preview mode. Previews allow you to read selected pages from the book prior to buying, often a way to ensure a proper conversion to the eBook format. If the book has obscured pages, it cannot be downloaded.

Method 1 of 4: Download it from the Google Play Books Library

   Open the Google Play Books library. You can access it at. You will be prompted to sign in with your Google account if you haven't already.

2. 

   Find the book from the library you want to download. You can only download books you have purchased and free books added to your library from the Google Play Store, or books you have uploaded yourself.
   • You may not be able to download any book from your library if it is listed as a "Sample" on the cover image. The template includes only a few pages of the book, not the entire book.
   • Not all purchased books will be downloadable, as the decision is up to the publisher.

   Hold your mouse pointer over the book and click on the menu button that appears in the top right corner of the cover. If the book is already open, you will need to click on “Exit” to return to your library first.

   Select "Download PDF" or "Download EPUB" (Download PDF or download EPUB). This allows you to download the book to your computer in the desired format. Purchased books will be downloaded in ACSM format as DRM - Digital Rights Management.
   • PDF is compatible with most devices, but won't have any navigation features.
   • EPUB is designed for eBook readers, and allows you to use the eBook reader functions for that book.

   Remove DRM from downloads for purchased books. When you download a PDF of a book you purchased from Google Play Books, it is downloaded in ACSM format. This is essentially just the link that must be opened in Adobe Digital Editions. advertisement

Method 2 of 4: Download it from Google Books Search Engine

1. 

   Open the book you want to download. You can download any book with the "Read" link in their search results on Google Books. The book will need to be free in order to be downloaded using this method; if the book is already purchased, it will be in your Google Play Books library.

   Click the gear icon in the top right corner of the page.

3. 

   Select "Download PDF" or "Download EPUB". This will allow you to download the book to your computer in the desired format. If you don't see this option, it means the book needs to be purchased before you can download it.
   • PDF is compatible with most devices, but won't have any navigation features.
   • EPUB is designed for eBook readers, and allows you to use the eBook reader functions for that book.

Method 3 of 4: Remove DRM from Purchased Books

1. 

   Download and install Adobe Digital Editions. This program is required to open the ACSM file in the first place to access the PDF file. Adobe Digital Editions is free and available on.

2. 

   Open Adobe Digital Editions and download the eBook you downloaded. This will download the eBook to your computer.
   • You can click and drag the ACSM file into the Adobe Digital Editions window to add it.
   • Check the box "I want to authorize my computer without an ID" in the "Computer Authorization" window that appears. Click the “Authorize” button to activate your computer.

   Right-click on the book in the library of Adobe Digital Editions and choose either "Show in Explorer" or "Show in Finder" (Display in Finder). A window will open and display the eBook file that has been downloaded to your computer. Don't close the window.

   Download and install Caliber. This is a free eBook reader that allows you to remove DRM with a plugin. You can download Caliber for free above.

5. 

   Download DRM removal plugin. Follow the instructions carefully, as doing it wrong could lead to malware installation.
   • Access in Firefox (because Chrome will block the download command).
   • IMPORTANT: Uncheck the box "Use our download manager" (Use our download manager).
   • Click the Download button.
   • Open the downloaded ZIP file, and then open the "DeDRM_calibre_plugin" folder.
   • Click and drag the ZIP file "De_DRM_plugin" to your home screen.

   Open Caliber and click on the ">>" button in the top right corner. This will open additional menu choices.

   Select "Preferences". In the "Advanced" section, select "Plugins".

   Select the button "Load plugin from file" and select the ZIP file "De_DRM_plugin" from the home screen. Restart Caliber for the changes to take effect.

   Return to the Plugins menu. Expand the plugin “File types” and select “DeDRM”.

10. 

    Click on "Customize plugin" and select "Adobe Digital Edition eBooks".

11. 

    Click the "+" button to generate a new encryption key. Click "Close", "OK", and then "Apply".Restart Caliber again.

    Return to the Explorer or Finder window with the PDF downloaded by Adobe Digital Reader (Step 3). Click and drag the PDF file into the Caliber window to add it to the Caliber library. DRM will be removed when the book is added to the library.
    • Any new ACSM files you add to the Caliber library will now be DRM removed as well.

    Right-click on the new ebook in the Caliber library and select "Open containing folder". This will open an Explorer or Finder window with the new ebook file with DRM removed. Now you can transfer this file to any of your compatible devices. advertisement

Method 4 of 4: Download a Template or Preview from Google Books Search

1. 

   Download and install the Google Books Downloader. It's a free program that allows you to go to the URL for the Google Books file and then download the existing pages to your computer.
   • You can download Google Books Downloader from.

2. 

   Copy the URL for the book you want to download. Select the preview type in Google Books search and copy the URL. Remember that this tool will only download pages that you can view in the Google Books website reader.

3. 

   Paste the URL into the "Google Book URL" box in Google Book Downloader. Please choose the output format if you do not want PDF.
   • You can also choose where you want the book to be stored. By default, it will be kept on your home screen.

4. 

   Click "Start" to start downloading the book. It may take some time if there are many pages to load. advertisement

• Take care to avoid files containing malware. Do not download files that appear unreliable.
• Sometimes the book is not available on eBooks.
