BitTorrent is a software program that allows you to download single files from multiple people at the same time. During the process of downloading files using BitTorrent, you will also be uploading your downloaded portions to others. The more popular the file, the more people are sharing it, and the faster your download will be. There are different BitTorrent clients to choose from.

Steps

Part 1 of 2: Download and install the BitTorrent client

   Download the torrent client. BitTorrent is the oldest torrent client and is still a work in progress. The app works on both Windows and Mac OS X.
   • The most recently updated and popular torrent clients are uTorrent, qBittorrent, Deluge, and Vuze.

   Install the torrent client on your computer. After downloading the torrent client you want to use, open the installation file and follow the instructions on your computer. advertisement

Part 2 of 2: Finding and downloading movies using a BitTorrent client

   Use a search engine to find the torrent file of the movie you want to download. To use a torrent client, you will need the file with the .torrent extension. You can use search engines to find specific file types.On Google, type in the name of the movie you want to download.
   • Syntax works on search engines like Bing, Yahoo! and DuckDuckGo.

   Click on one of the search results that appears. Torrent sites often pop up with lots of ads that sometimes have unhealthy content. These pages also often crash due to piracy and not all links will work.
   • Links in search results can take you to a website to download a torrent file or to download content directly.
   • Torrent sites usually list the number of seeders for each torrent file. Seeders are the ones that are uploading portions of the torrent file.

   Open the torrent client.

   Open the torrent file you just downloaded. Depending on the torrent client we will drag the file onto the torrent client window to open it. You can also use the File menu to open the torrent file. Double-clicking on the file will also open the content in the torrent client.

   Start downloading the data. Most torrent clients won't start downloading files until you start them yourself. Click the torrent file to select it, then click the start streaming button (usually with an arrow icon like a play button).
   • When the file starts to download, you'll see how many people are downloading and uploading the content. The more people upload (or seed) the file, the faster the download will be.
   • Once the file has downloaded, you can continue to seed by leaving the torrent client open.
   • Movie files can be downloaded in various formats. Depending on the format, you may need to download a new video player.

Warning

• If the movie has few seeders, the download may take a while.
• Downloading movies is not illegal, but sharing does. When you upload (or seed) a movie, you will make yourself more susceptible to being sued by the copyright holder of the movie you are uploading.
• If you know that you are downloading a movie using BitTorrent, your network service provider can send you a reminder letter. In this case, it is best to stop. If you continue, it is possible that you will be discontinued your Internet service and face piracy fines.
• You should only download movies that are in the public domain, have a Creative Commons license or similar. Do not download copyrighted movies.
