This wikiHow teaches you how to download Facebook Messenger videos to your iPhone or Android device. On Messenger, you can only save videos sent from your Camera Roll or friends. For shared videos, Messenger doesn't support saving so we need another free app and the "SaveFrom" website. Remember that you can only download videos shared on Facebook in public, public videos, but viewers cannot download.

Steps

Part 1 of 4: Save sent videos

1. 

   App Store on iPhone, then:
   • Click Search (Search)
   • Click the search bar.
   • Import documents
   • Click Search
   • Click GET (RECEIVE) to the right of the "Documents by Readdle" header.
   • Scan your fingerprint Touch ID or enter your Apple ID when prompted.

   Files. Press the Home button on the iPhone to minimize the Documents app, then tap the Blue Files folder icon on a white background.

Part 4 of 4: Download shared Facebook videos on Android

   • Click ACCEPT (ACCEPT) when it appears.

   Open ES File Explorer. Exit Chrome, then tap the ES File Manager app icon in the App Drawer.
   • If it's your first time installing ES File Explorer, you may need to swipe or tap through a series of introduction screens before proceeding.

   Choose a storage location. Click on the option Internal (Internal memory) or SD Card (SD Card) depends on where Android usually saves the downloaded file.

   Click Downloads. This folder is near the center of the page, however, you may have to scroll down to find it. All files downloaded on Android, including the Facebook Messenger video, are here.
   • On some Android devices, this folder is named Download.

7. 

   Transfer videos to the Photos app. You can transfer videos from the "Downloads" folder to the "Camera" folder, where the Photos app's photos are stored on Android:
   • Press and hold on the Facebook Messenger video to bring up a menu.
   • Tap ⋮ in one of the right corners of the screen.
   • Click Move to (Transfer to)
   • Click DCIM
   • Click Camera
   • Press OK at the bottom of the window.

Advice

• Unfortunately, apps that allow video downloads (which you normally consider impossible) are often removed from the respective platform's app store after a certain amount of time.

Warning

• Videos shared on Messenger are usually of lower quality than they were when uploaded.
• You should only download Facebook videos for your own personal use.
