Liquid eyeliner can be difficult to put on and give substandard results if not done correctly. If you experience shaky lines or failed ends, try these techniques to fix it. In no time you will be able to apply your eyeliner like a make-up artist!

To step

  1. Choose your liquid eyeliner. You have now taken the step of opting for a liquid eyeliner. Now you have to decide the best way to apply it. Liquid eyeliner comes in two types: one with a felt top and one with a small brush. The felt-top eyeliner resembles a fine-tip writer and lets the eyeliner come out through the top like a fine-tip writer. Eyeliner with a brush is similar to nail polish in that it comes in a small bottle with a brush that is dipped into the jar between each stroke. An eyeliner with a felt top is easiest for beginners to apply although both can give a smooth, even line.
  2. Get your eyes ready for the eyeliner. Applying eyeliner is an intermediate step that you take after applying the eyeshadow but before applying mascara. Apply an eyeshadow primer so that your eyeshadow and / or eyeliner stays on your eyelid all day long. If you plan on putting on eyeshadow, do so now and put your eyeliner on top.
  3. Make sure you're in the right position. The main problem with applying liquid eyeliner is the lack of a steady hand which makes the line wavy and uneven. To solve this problem, place your elbow on a table and your hand against your cheek while applying the eyeliner. If you can, hold a small hand mirror in your other hand instead of using a large mirror so you can see your lid and eyeliner.
  4. Put a row of dots or dashes. When applying liquid eyeliner, don't draw the line all at once: doing that increases the chances of a shaky line and uneven tip. Instead, start by putting small dots or dashes along your top lash line. Make sure the space between the dots or dashes is even.
  5. Now connect the dots together. Use small short strokes to connect the dots or dashes you've made along your lash line. You will be able to draw a straight line without bumps or waves through this method. Do not draw the line in one go, but connect each dot with the other with a small stroke.
  6. Smooth your line. If you notice that you can still see the dots at the top of your line, make sure your hand is firm and then draw a thin line along the edge to smooth out the line. Do that also at the bottom of the line if you still have to fill in there between the eyeliner line and the lash line.
  7. Make the end of the line. Regardless of which eyeliner you use, a small end should be pulled at the outside of the eyelid to give it the illusion of a continuation of your lash line. Using your eyeliner, draw a thin line outward on your top lash line, keeping it at the same angle as the upward arch of your bottom lash line. You can cut the line short if you want a natural look or pull it way up on your lid for a classic cat eye. Draw a small triangle from the end of your line with the top lash line and fill in the space in between. This will create a dark end that fills in your lashes and makes them appear fuller than a regular end.
  8. Put on the rest of your makeup. Now that you have applied the eyeliner, you can apply your mascara and make any other final make-up corrections. Use a large brush with a lot of bristles to brush off any eyeshadow or eyeliner that has fallen under your eyes. Use a cotton swab dipped in makeup cleaner to remove any mistakes you may have made in your eyeliner or mascara.

Tips

  • Don't rush it. Take your time and watch instructions on YouTube to help you.
  • If you get the eyeliner in your eye, rinse and gently wipe the entire area. If you injured yourself with the eyeliner bottle, apply a little pressure with a damp warm cloth against your closed eye until the pain subsides.
  • Use a high quality eyeliner with peptides that promote your eyelash growth and also keep your eyelashes from falling out by removing mascara.

Warnings

  • Make sure you are not allergic to the liquid eyeliner you are using. Always do a wrist test where you put a little bit of eyeliner on your wrist to see if you have an allergic reaction.
