The first time surfing 4chan can be quite a confusing experience. Some boards (big topics) like Random are filled with images and language that can be frustrating or frustrating. Other boards, like Auto or Technology, include constructive discussions on the subject of expertise. Visit the 4chan home page for a list of boards and click on a title that interests you. You can surf the threads, or read quietly to get a sense of the language and culture here. However, you should refrain from clicking on strange links, avoid following seemingly insecure advice and never post any personal information on 4chan in particular and online forums in general.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Access the boards
Visit the home page to see the board list. Go to the 4chan home page, where you will see a quick description of the page and a complete list of boards. Since 4chan does not have a username and password system, you do not need to login to view it.
Read through the regulations and frequently asked questions (FAQs). Links to the regulatory and frequently asked questions pages are just below the description on the home page. If you plan to post something, take some time to get used to these to avoid being banned.
- For example, as a rule, you must be 18 years or older to access the site. You may not post or discuss religious content, advertisements, or make complaints about 4chan's policies. If you post to a specific board, such as Technology, your post should be related to that topic.
Click on a topic and accept the disclaimer. The first time you click on a topic, you will be asked to first agree to the disclaimer before you can view the content. The most popular topic is Random, or / b /, which is famous for being the source of many controversial trends online. Note that it is very easy to find pornography, gore and other controversial content on the Random board. If you don't like these there are still many other topics to see.- Topics like Technology, Video Games and Paranormal (Supernatural) are full of interesting discussions.
- LGBT topics include issues that are seriously discussed such as disclosure or transgender gender, same-sex marriage rights, and so on.
- Topics like Auto, Fitness, and Do It Yourself provide constructive content specifically for those who are interested.
Browse through the board pages. Read through comment lines on the first page, then use the number at the bottom of the page to navigate to other pages. You should "anonymize" or surf without posting if you are just using 4chan. Silently reading the content on a topic for two to three weeks will help you understand the culture and vocabulary of this community.
Navigate to other boards with the alphabetical link at the top of the page. After accessing certain boards, you will see a list of letters and abbreviations at the top of the page. This linked list will take you to other boards on 4chan. You can click to access another board without having to return to the homepage.
- If you hover your mouse pointer over a letter or initial without clicking, the tooltip will appear and tell you which board the link is leading to.
- For example, / g / will lead to the Technology topic, / o / move to Auto and / diy / will take you to the Do It Yourself column.
Method 2 of 3: Find out better
Use archive or category view. The standard view shows the normal posts or the OP (Original Poster: posts that start a certain topic) and the first five replies on that topic. You can also click the category link located just above the first board post to go to a gallery page that includes the entire short OP list, with no answers. When you click an archive link next to a category link, you'll see a list of posts that have expired in the last three days.
Find original posts by topic. You can enter keywords in the search bar on the standard view to filter posts. Search results will show up in the category view with options for sorting posts by date or popularity. In the category view, the search bar is on the right side of the screen. You can enter a search term here to start a new search, or delete a search term to see the full list of posts.
Use image search to find the source of your photos. If you want to find out where something comes from, you can click on the gray triangle right after the title content. When you click it, an option to search by image via Google Image (Google Images) or IQDB will appear.
- If you like a certain image, you may consider saving it or taking a screenshot. The 4chan post will be gone after a few days.
Look up slang words that you don't understand. There are many common slang words, vocabulary and abbreviations scattered all over 4chan. In addition, many boards have their own jargon and slang. When you find a word, meme or comment line confusing, you can search Google or look up Urban Dictionary. advertisement
Method 3 of 3: Surf 4chan safely
Stay away from boards containing content that can be annoying. Some boards like Random and Politically Incorrect are filled with offensive and disgusting content. Other board titles may also note that categories contain pornography and adult topics.
- You can use the filter drop-down menu at the top of the board list and select “Show Work-Safe Boards Only”.Or you can also select “Show Not Safe For Work Boards Only”.
Limit posting personal information on the internet. Never post your contact or personal information on 4chan or any online forum. 4chan encourages people to remain anonymous, does not allow contact requests and also does not give out your contact information or other users to anyone.
- Note: 4chan can track the network IP address and when necessary can use this information to ban you or give it to the competent authority.
Don't click on strange links. You can download viruses or malware by clicking on a suspicious link. Please refrain from clicking on any outbound links on 4chan. You can click on the image for a larger view or save it without worry as the image does not include any additional sounds, documents or data as a rule.
Don't follow unsafe advice. Sometimes posts on 4chan can encourage viewers to do things that are obviously unsafe. One post from 2014, for example, suggested that the reader turn the cell phone in a microwave to enable stealth. Use your best judgment every time you see a thread providing advice and if in doubt don't try it at home. advertisement
