  • You can also decide the width of the strips. The number of strips of paper will change the shape of the lantern. Each cut is about 2.5 cm apart.
  • Roll the piece of paper into a tube. Roll the piece of paper and fold the edges together to form a round tube. Use tape or glue to stick the edges of the paper together. Remember to stick the whole length of the lantern! You should stick the inside to avoid exposing the tape.
    • You can also staple to attach the paper edges of the lantern.

  • Make the handle. Cut a strip of paper to make the handle. If using printed paper, the handle of the lantern should be about 15 cm long and 2.5 cm wide ..
    • If you want to hang a lantern, you won't need a handle - the lantern will be hung on ribbons or by string attached to the lamp.
  • Attach the handle. Use glue or tape to fix the handle inside the top rim of the lantern.
    • If the lantern looks upright, you should press it down a bit. Gradually the lantern will have the desired shape. The harder the paper, the more you will need to bend the lantern.

  • Enjoy the results. You can put candles in a lantern, hang it on the ceiling or use it as a decoration in the center of the table.
    • Since lanterns are made of paper, you should only place small cup candles or flower candles in the center of the lantern if you have a cup to hold the candles. Place the candle in a glass and cover the lantern outside to light it. It is best to use a tall glass so that the fire does not scorch the edge of the lantern and catch fire.
      • Only light candles if you place lanterns on a flat surface, do not light candles when hanging or carrying them.

  • Method 2 of 3: Making "snowflake" lanterns

    1. Cut two circles with paper. Use any circular object to carry it on paper and cut it with scissors. Make sure the two circles are the same size.
      • You can cut a circle of any size, just remember that the bigger the circle, the bigger the lantern. You can use a round saucer or ice cream lid, bucket bottom, or any other round shape.
      • You can also use any type of paper you like: plain white paper, plain colored paper, patterned paper, etc.

    2. Fold the first circle. Take a circle twice, then double it twice more. You should end up with a shape that looks like pizza pieces (almost like a long triangle with a curve on top).
    3. Draw curved lines. Draw curved lines following the curve of a circle (the edge of the pizza), draw alternating curves that originate from two edges in turn, but not reach the other side. Starting from the left edge, draw a slight curve and stop while the right edge is a little (2.5 to 1 cm) away. Then draw a slight curve starting from the right edge under the curve just drawn and stopping near the left edge.
      • Continue drawing alternately until you reach the end point (the sharp end of the triangle).

    4. Cut a small hole. Cut a small piece of paper at the pointed end of the triangle to make a small hole in the center of the circle.
    5. Cut curves. Use scissors to cut the paper according to the curves you just drew. Try to cut properly according to the lines, but don't have to be perfect either. Just make sure you don't miss the other line.
    6. Open the paper. Be careful not to tear the cut strips, open the paper to a circle as at first.

    7. Stick the two circles together. Use glue to glue the outer rings of the two circles together. Make sure not to stick the inner parts of the two circles. Let the glue dry.
    8. Pull the two sides of the lantern apart. Gently pull the sides of the lantern so that the pieces of paper stretch and reveal the beautiful design you just cut.
      • Tie a rope on top of the lantern (through the opening in the outer ring) and hang it somewhere to watch.

Method 3 of 3: Make a round lantern with a tissue

    1. Cut circles with paper towels. Use anything round (coffee box lid, saucepan, etc.) to make the item circles on paper towels. Depending on the size of the circle, you will need about 100 circles cut out of the tissue. Draw circles on a tissue, as close together as possible to save the tissue.
      • Do not draw the circle too big or too small. If the circles are too big, the lantern will look wild; If it is too small, it will take more effort than necessary. You should draw circles about the size of a coffee box lid.
    2. Cut the circles. Use scissors to cut out all the circles. Handle paper towels very carefully as they are very thin and easily tear.
    3. Paste on the bottom of round lanterns. Take a circle cut out of the tissue and stick it to the bottom of the lantern. Make sure to align the bottom of the lantern properly so you can then do the rest proportionally when glued to the top.
    4. Stick a row of circles around the base of the lantern. Starting at the bottom of the lantern, create a row of circles by pasting the top of each circle onto the lantern.
      • Make sure the circle on the bottom of the lantern falls lower than the light frame for a soft and sparkling look.
    5. Cover the entire lantern with circles. Repeat step 5 until the whole lantern is covered with circles cut out of the tissue. Each time you stick it on the top ring, make sure to paste it so that the bottom circle shows about 2.5 cm. This way your finished product will be layered. advertisement

    Advice

    • Make light colored paper lamps with two colors if you want to light the lamp, but if it's just for decoration, you can use multi-colored or patterned paper as you like.
    • Do not place any other flammable objects inside the lantern (except in the cup) as this may cause a fire.
    • Use paper of different colors. Patterns help conceal disproportionate lines.

    Warning

    • Never light a candle unattended!
