  • You can use old newspaper from your home or buy local newspapers from newsstands or convenience stores.
  • Wrap extra newspaper on the shoe. Stack two to three layers of newspaper and place a shoe on top. Wrap newspaper around your shoes as tightly as possible to absorb moisture. Use 2-3 elastic bands to prevent the newspaper layer from spreading. The rest of the shoe covers are similar.
    • Avoid using newspapers with large area bold ink.

Tips: If you are concerned about the ink staining of your shoes, you can buy newspaper printing white paper at craft stores or online.

  • Change newspapers every 2-3 hours for maximum moisture absorption. The newspaper tucked inside and wrapped the outside of the shoe gradually absorbs moisture and begins to get wet. Check the moisture of shoes and newspaper every 2-3 hours. If you feel wet newspaper, remove it completely and replace it with fresh, dry newspaper.
    • Your shoes may dry out in a few hours, but if they're too wet, you may have to wait overnight.

  • Method 2 of 4: Hang the shoes in front of the fan

    1. Cut 2 sections of the hanger, each about 15 cm long. Use pliers to straighten the hanger and measure a length of 15 cm. Put the hanger between the two blades to cut the steel wire and squeeze the handle to cut. Measure and cut the second segment after cutting the first.
      • If you don't have a hanger, you can use any 12-gauge piece of steel wire.
      • You can use a shoe drying fan of all designs and materials.
      • Be careful with the length of the wire after cutting it, as the end of the wire can be very sharp.

    2. Bend the wire piece into an S-shaped hook. Use clamps in the center of the wire segment and bend forward to create a long hook, then clamp the straight end of the wire segment and bend backward in the opposite direction to the first bend. When finished, the wire segment will be S-shaped with a large hook on the bottom end and a small hook on the top end. Do the same with the rest of the wire.
      • You can use your hand to break the wire if you don't have pliers available.
    3. Hang 2 hooks in front of the fan. Do not turn on the fan when hanging the hook to avoid accidentally hitting the fan blades. Small curved end hook on the top edge of the front fan frame. Attach 2 hooks 8-10 cm apart to allow enough room to hang both shoes.
      • Make sure that the hook on the fan does not touch the fan blades to avoid damaging the fan.

    4. Hang the shoes on the hook so that the inside of the shoe is facing the propeller. Any type of shoe can be dried with a fan, but heavier shoes, such as boots, are more likely to fall off. You need to hang your shoes on the hook so that the sole is facing out so the wind can blow into the shoe. Check that the shoe is securely fastened when you let go of your hand, and use the pliers to break the hook if the shoe falls off.
      • Make sure the shoelaces do not stick into the fan; otherwise, they can become tangled and damaged.
    5. Turn fan on high until shoes dry. Turn on the fan at full speed to let the rotten wind dry the shoes. While hanging your shoes on the fan, check every 20-30 minutes to see if they are dry. It may take an hour or more for the new shoes to dry completely, so be patient and wear different shoes in the meantime.
      • Place a fan near a sunny window to dry the shoes faster.

Tips: Spread a towel underneath to absorb water from your shoes.

Method 3 of 4: Use a clothes dryer

    1. Loosen the shoelace so that the remaining string is about 15 cm long. Remove the laces from the top 2 holes and pull the reed up to loosen the laces. Pull the shoelace so that the outward-facing string is about 15 cm long. Make sure the laces do not tighten around the tongue, as this may not dry the inside of the shoe.
      • Do not dry your shoes without laces, as you could damage the shoes or the dryer if you do.
    2. Tie the laces of the two shoes together. Hold both ends of a shoe with one hand, while holding the other in the other. Tie the laces of both shoes into a knot so that the shoes are attached. Remember not to tie the knot too tightly, lest the shoes dry up and cannot be removed.
      • You also don't have to tie the two shoes together, but this will prevent the shoe from slipping off and the laces from getting stuck in the machine.
    3. Keep shoes close to inside the dryer door. Hold the laces so that the tip of the shoe is pointing down. Open the dryer door and place the sole inside the door, keeping the laces straight. Make sure the shoelaces stick up 2.5 - 5 cm above the dryer door so that the shoes don't slip off and fall into the machine.
      • This step works best for a front-load dryer, but you can also do it with a top-load dryer.
    4. Pour the rice into a large plastic container so that the level of the rice is 2.5 cm high. Use a box large enough to hold shoes and with a snug lid on top. Fill the bottom of the box with white rice or brown rice up to 2.5 cm to absorb the moisture in the shoe.
      • If you need to dry a lot of shoes, find a large plastic bucket to fill with rice.
      • You can use rice to dry shoes of any material.
    5. Lean the shoes on top of the rice. Place the shoes on their side or face down in the rice box. Press down on shoes so they are slightly submerged in the rice for better moisture absorption. Place two shoes about 2.5 to 5 cm apart to allow more moisture to escape.
    6. Cover and wait 2-3 hours. Close the lid of the box and remember to close it tightly. Wait about 2-3 hours for the rice to absorb the moisture in the shoes. After a few hours, you can open the lid and check to see if the shoes are dry. If shoes are still damp, put them back in the rice box and wait an hour before checking again.
      • If your shoes are still wet, you may have to leave them in a rice box overnight.

    Advice

    • Remember to wash or scrub the dirt off your shoes before drying them; otherwise, the shoe may stain.
    • If you have more time, dry them in direct sunlight.

    Warning

    • Don't use a hair dryer to dry your shoes, as it will take longer and risk a fire if left unattended.
    • Read the shoe labels to make sure the shoes can be used in the dryer before you put them in the machine. Leather shoes or shoes with gel cores will be damaged if you put them in the dryer.
    • Avoid putting your shoes in the microwave or oven, as you may damage the material of the shoe.
