Whatever your interests, there are definitely a lot of people out there who share the same interests as you. Yahoo! Groups is an online community where you can find people with the same interests and interests as you.

Steps

Part 1 of 5: Getting Started

1. 

   Create a Yahoo account. To access Yahoo! Groups, you need a Yahoo account.
   • Create an account by visiting www.Yahoo.com and clicking on "Mail".
   • Follow the instructions on the screen to create a new account.
   • You will need to provide a username and password.
   • Choose a username that you won't mind if others see it. After you join the group, others will see this name.
   • You will use this username and password to sign in to Yahoo! Groups.

   Remember to protect yourself. Be safe on the Internet by following some simple guidelines.
   • You should create a username (avoid using real names for privacy reasons).
   • When setting a password, do not use your date of birth, identity card number, numbers or consecutive letters (1234 or abcd).
   • Do not share your password with anyone. If you write the password on paper, keep it in a safe place.

   Sign in with an existing account. If you already have a Yahoo email account, there is no need to create another account for Yahoo! Groups.
   • Sign in to your Yahoo email account at https://login.yahoo.com/.
   • Click "Groups" at the top of the screen to access Yahoo! Groups.

Part 2 of 5: Finding the group

   Browse to find groups. Choose from among the various categories listed on the main Yahoo! Groups at www.groups.yahoo.com.
   • Categories include Business & Finance, Computers & Internet (Internet & Computers), Family & Home, Government & Politics (Politics & Religion), Hobbies & Crafts, Romance & Relationships, Schools & Education, and more.
   • Start a group search by clicking on one of these categories.
   • Click on the group name to see the description of the group.

2. 

   Find groups by keyword search. You can search by yourself if you know the name of the group you want to join.
   • Use the Yahoo! Groups and enter keywords to find groups.
   • Click the "Search Groups" button next to the search box to begin your search.
   • You may need to try a few word combinations until you find the right group.

Part 3 of 5: Join the group

1. 

   Join a group that you enjoy. After you find the group, please join.
   • On the group's page, click the “Join Group” link.
   • If the group is restricted, you must wait for the group's owner or administrator to approve the request before you can join.
   • If the group is open, you are automatically added to the group.
   • Once you join the group, you can access the messages, pictures, files, and all the content people post in the group.

2. 

   Share your membership information. Choose what you want to share with the group.
   • Select an alias (display name). The default alias will be your email address.
   • Share your email address.
   • Decide how often you want to receive notifications from the group.

   Confirm your selections by re-entering the text shown in the box. This will help verify your identity.
   • You can change how often the team emails you at any time. Visit the Edit Membership area on the group home page and click the edit icon next to the Subscription button.
   • Change your display name (alias) by logging into Yahoo mail. Click the "Settings"> "Accounts" option. Select "Edit" to the right of "Yahoo Account" and enter your new name under the "Sending Name" heading.

Part 4 of 5: Subscribe to the group mailing list

1. 

   Receive email from the group. You can receive emails from the group without joining.
   • To sign up, send a blank email to the address [email protected].
   • Replace "groupname" with the real name of the group.

2. 

   After replying to the confirmation message, you will begin to receive emails from the group.
   • You won't have access to all the group's web features such as images, polls, and calendars.
   • You can decide to join the group later by submitting a join request on the group home page.

Part 5 of 5: Join Yahoo! Groups

1. 

   Post to the group through Conversations. Conversations are the area where most group activities take place.
   • Click “Conversations” on the group home page.
   • Click “New Topic”, enter a new message and click “Send”.
   • Click “Reply to this message” to reply to another member's message.
   • You can add a link to the video, such as a YouTube link.

2. 

   Email the group. You can email the group as you would any other email address.
   • Use the email account you used to sign up for Yahoo! Groups. This is also your Yahoo email account.
   • Enter [email protected] into the "To:" field. Replace "groupname" with the real name of the group.
   • Compose your message in the body of the email and click “Send”.
   • You can add pictures as attachments.

3. 

   Find items that were posted before. You can find messages, files and pictures that have been posted previously.
   • Once in a group, you can use the "search" icon to find older posts.
   • The "search" icon has a magnifying glass in the square frame.
   • This icon is always visible and usable wherever you are on the page.
   • After clicking on the "search" icon, enter the keyword / name you want to find.
   • Click "Enter" to see the search results.

Advice

• When browsing for groups, you can encounter different levels before you can choose a particular topic.
• Keywords in the verification box are "case sensitive". Make sure you type in the correct upper and lower case as shown in the display.
• If the group has a lot of activities, you need to make sure that your communication preferences are appropriate. You may want to limit the number of notifications you receive.

Warning

• At the top of each group's page, you will see the number of messages the group has received. This number in some groups can be up to thousands of messages per day. Don't forget to limit the number of emails you will receive, otherwise your inbox will fill up quickly.
