This wikiHow teaches you how to re-establish the connection of the Vizio remote by resetting the power cycle or resetting the memory. In some cases, we just need to troubleshoot the performance of the remote control and the problem will be solved and you don't need to reinstall.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Reset remote power cycle

1. 

   Remove the remote control batteries. The batteries are usually located in the battery compartment at the bottom or the rear of the remote control.

   Hold down the remote control's power button. This button is usually located on the top of the remote control.

3. 

   Release the power button after five seconds. The remaining energy will be released from the remote control.

   Press each button individually on the remote at least once. This will return the stuck buttons to their original position.

   Replace the remote control batteries. If the batteries in the remote control are brand new, simply replace them.

   Try using the remote. As long as the cause doesn't work due to a problem with updating the firmware or using too much continuity, the remote will work again.
   • If the process is ineffective, you can do the power cycle with the TV as well. To proceed, unplug the TV, hold down the power button for five seconds, then plug the TV back in and turn it on.

Part 2 of 3: Reset remote memory

1. 

   Hold down the button SET or SETUP. This button is usually located in the upper left corner of the remote control.
   • This method may not work for remote controls other than universal.
   • After clearing the remote control memory, you will need to reprogram it for compatibility with other devices (eg DVD player) as these connections will also be reinstalled.

   Release the button SET output when the LED flashes twice. The LED light on the Vizio universal remote is located on the top side of the remote.

   Press 9 8 1. Here is the reset code of most Vizio universal remotes.
   • If the code 9 8 1 not working, please try entering the code 9 7 7.
   • You can find the reset code in the remote control's manual.

   Wait for the LED to flash twice. The LED flashes twice to indicate that the Vizio universal remote control has been cleared of memory. All firmware issues will be resolved after you do this. advertisement

Part 3 of 3: Troubleshooting Connection

1. 

   Remove the obstruction located in front of the TV sensor. Even transparent materials can interfere with the remote control's infrared signal.
   • The new TV protective plastic wrap is no exception.
   • The infrared sensor is usually located in the lower right or lower left corner of the TV's surface.

2. 

   Make sure the battery is new. We often forget to replace batteries in electronic devices, so the batteries in the remote must be new for the remote performance to be good.
   • You should also use a high quality battery (eg Duracell or Energizer).

3. 

   Use the Vizio remote control different from the TV. If the TV responds to another Vizio remote, you may need to replace or replace your existing Vizio remote.
   • Similarly, if the current Vizio remote actually works with another TV then the problem is not with the remote.

   Contact Vizio customer support. You can do this by calling 1 (855) 833-3221. If the remote control is simply not working, you may be exchanged for a new product for free.
