This wikiHow article will show you how to play Minesweeper on a Windows PC. Although the Mine Detector game is no longer pre-installed on Windows machines, an improved version of it can be downloaded for free from the Windows 10 app store.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Learn how to play Mine Detector

1. 

   (Starting). Click the Windows logo in the lower left corner of the screen.

   . Click the search result Microsoft Store right near the top of the Start window.

   Choose the difficulty. In the upper left corner of the window, you start the game by clicking on one of the difficulty settings below:
   • Easy level 9x9 - A nine-person-ripe square board spread over 10 mines.
   • Medium level 16x16 - Sixteen-human-sixteen square board on which spread 40 mines.
   • 30x16 difficulty level - A square board thirty-six-by-thirty-six on which 99 mines were spread.
   • Custom - Set your own game parameters, including the square board size, number of mines, etc.

   Read the tutorial if you want. If this is your first time playing Microsoft Mine Detector, a how-to guide will appear to help you practice the basics of Mine Detection.
   • If you do not want to play according to the instructions, click the button Skip (Skip) right at the top of the window.

   Click on any square in the table. So you will start the game Mine Detect.

   Review the numbers. Any number in the table refers to the number of mines currently located near the square containing that number.

   Right click on any square you think has a mine. A flag will appear in that square. To facilitate future removal, it is best to start with squares that are likely to contain mines (for example, there is only one square next to the number "1" in the board).
   • Make sure you do not check the box where there are more mines than the number of mines on the board.

   Right-click on cells you are unsure of. Doing so will have a question mark appear in the square, which means that you want to separate the cell until the other squares are excluded.
   • This is a safe strategy for boards where you have found mostly two or three mines left.

10. 

    Click on any cell that does not contain mines. You will delete the cells in question.

    Clear the table. In order to win in a Mine Detection game, you need to be able to click on all the boxes that do not contain mines. When you do that, the game will be over.
    • If you click on the square containing the mines by accident, the game will end. You have the option to start a new game or replay the finished game.

Advice

• The more you play with the Mine Detector, the more you will learn to detect a sign that you have a mine (or no mines).
• If you see the pattern "121" in a line, place a flag in the cells with the number one and open the cell with the number 2.

Warning

• On Windows 7 or Vista software, you need to open the Mine Detector game from the Start section instead of downloading it from the Store.
