Red Hat is a Linux distribution. If your distribution does not include the software you need, you can install it (by downloading it from the Internet or from external media). This can be done through the graphical interface or through the terminal (command line).

Steps

1. 1 Remember: on Linux, the software is available as packages downloaded from the repositories. The installers are called package managers, which automatically detect dependencies on other software libraries.
2. 2 Open Terminal (Command Prompt).
3. 3 Enter the superuser password.
4. 4To update the package list, enter yum check-update
5. 5 Enter yum install program name>.
6. 6For example, to install the Dillo web browser, type yum install dillo
7. 7 Confirm the installation by pressing Y.
8. 8 Made!

Tips

• Use the Synaptic package manager to install programs through a graphical interface.
• You can use the Apt-Get command (although not available in Red Hat 6).
