Cracking an Apple device allows you to interfere with settings that are often restricted by this carrier. This will void the warranty, but the process can be easily reversed so it won't be detected. Follow these instructions to jailbreak your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad.

Steps

Method 1 of 5: Perform Backup

  1. Check iTunes settings. Make sure you have updated iTunes to the latest version. If you use Windows, you'll need to install iTunes from the Apple website. Mac computers always come with an installation of iTunes. You need to create a backup point to restore in case the device jailbreak fails.

  2. Plug the device into the computer. Open iTunes. Click on the device in the sidebar. Select “Back Up Now”. This allows backup of all data, contacts and settings.
  3. Disable screen lock on iOS device. If you set a screen lock password, you need to disable them during the unlocking process, and then re-enable them once done.
    • You can disable the password by opening Settings, selecting General, and then selecting Passcode Lock. You will be prompted for a password, and then adjust your password preferences. Remember to switch to off mode.
    • After completing the jailbreak process, you can enable your password with the above steps.
    • ITunes backup passwords also need to be disabled during the jailbreak process. In iTunes, click on the device and uncheck the "Encrypt Local Backup" dialog box. You need to enter the password and back up the device again.

  4. Check iOS version. There are different jailbreak methods depending on which version of iOS you are using. To check the version, follow these steps:
    • Open Settings on the device.
    • Choose General.
    • Choose About (Introduce).
    • The iOS version is displayed in the item Version (Version).
    • There is currently no way to untie jailbreak iOS devices running version 6.1.3. Non-binding means the device does not need to be connected to the computer each time it boots. To perform constraint jailbreak, follow the method in the next section.

Method 2 of 5: Unlocking iOS 6.0 -6.1.2 or iOS 7.0 - 7.0.4 Devices

  1. Download evasi0n for iOS 6 or evasi0n 7 for iOS 7. To jailbreak version 6.0.0-6.1.2 or iOS 7.0 - 7.0.4, download the unlocking software at the location.
    • This is an unbound crack method. That means that after a successful jailbreak, the device is permanently unlocked, until you either reverse the process yourself or download an update from Apple to fix the jailbreak bug.
    • Make sure to download the version that is compatible with your computer's operating system. Personal computers need to run Windows XP or higher. Mac needs OS X.6 or later.
  2. Close all running applications on the device. Remember to return to the Home Screen. Make sure the device is still connected to the computer.
    • You may lose data in a running application during jailbreak, so return to the home screen before proceeding.
  3. Close iTunes on your computer. Run the evasi0n software. Click the "Jailbreak" button. The cracking process can take a few minutes. Do not run any programs on the computer and do not touch the device's power button.
    • Too many active programs on your computer can slow down jailbreaking and interrupt installation, forcing you to redo the entire process. Turning off the power while unlocking may cause the phone to stop working.
  4. When prompted, run the Jailbreak application. This application appears on the home screen of the device. Tap on the app to continue the jailbreak process.
  5. Open Cydia. After the jailbreak is complete, an app called Cydia will appear on the home screen. This is an alternative to Apple's iTunes, you can interfere with apps that are not in Apple's terms.
    • Cydia needs to download the data before completing the jailbreak. The phrase "Reloading Data" will appear and then disappear.
  6. Install middleware applications. The device has been jailbroken. Remember to re-enable your password and screen lock. You can install an intermediary application on your iOS device. advertisement

Method 3 of 5: Unlocking iOS Devices 5.1.1

  1. Device backup. Follow the steps above. Close iTunes when done and let the device connect to the computer.
  2. Download Absinthe 2, a free jailbreak software. Absinthe is one of the easiest programs to use to crack iOS 5.1.1. The software also provides a jailbreak for iOS 5.01 following the same operation. Run the software and select the button "Jailbreak".
    • This is a non-binding crack. This means that after a successful jailbreak, the device is permanently unlocked, until you either reverse the process yourself or download the update from Apple to fix the jailbreak.
  3. The device will automatically begin unlocking. Pay attention to follow the on-screen instructions to put the device into DFU mode (Firmware Updater Status). You need to click on “Jailbreak” again.
    • Wait a moment, the “Complete” message will appear. The device reboots automatically.
  4. Open the “Loader” app on the home screen. This app allows you to download and install Cydia. Cydia is used to find and install apps that are not allowed on Apple devices.
  5. Reboot the device again. Your device is then unlocked and ready to use. advertisement

  2. If you crack the binding with Redsn0w, simply install the p0sixspwn package from Saurik.
  3. Run p0sixspwn and click unlock button.
  4. Wait for the jailbreak to complete. advertisement

Method 5 of 5: Recover iOS Devices

  1. Connect the device to the computer. Make sure to connect to the computer where the backup is being made, otherwise you will need to access the backup file.
    • If you backed up from iCloud, you don't need to use the computer that backed up earlier.
  2. Open iTunes and select the device. The device is listed in the left pane of the iTunes window. If you don't see that box, you can select the device in the menu in the upper right corner of iTunes.
  3. Click the Restore button. This button is located on the Summary tab after selecting the device. You are asked if you want to take the backup. Click agree and the device will automatically start the backup. Once done, the device will reboot.
  4. Choosing how to restore If you want to keep your settings and apps before you jailbreak them, select Restore on iCloud Backup or on iTunes Backup. If you want to restore your device to factory settings, select Set Up as New Device.
    • When choosing the restore method, select the item that allows you to access the backup you want to restore.
    • You can back up when your device is unlocked, and your device is not fully unlocked when the restore process is complete. Doing this allows you to keep the latest settings and apps before jailbreak.
  5. Wait for the restore to complete. The process can take a few minutes. The device will show the progress and the remaining time on the screen.
  6. Enter your Apple account. When you start using the device, you'll need to enter your Apple account and password to access apps and cloud data. advertisement

Advice

  • If you need help with the jailbreak process, don't go to the official Apple forum, look for an online unlocking forum, they are always ready to help.
  • Unlocking is legal in most countries, even in the US.
  • Always check for jailbreak before updating iOS because Apple will patch jailbreak in updated version and the company will not give specific notice.

Warning

  • Unlocking may cause the device to stop working. This is quite rare and the cause is usually not following the steps above.
  • In Singapore, cracking a device or downloading unauthorized software is illegal. The Singapore police investigates the device and the computer, if they discover the jailbreak, you will be fined, detained or imprisoned for the illegal act.
  • Unlocking void of warranty and Apple will not repair or replace an iOS device if something goes wrong. However, you can still use the warranty if you restore your device to the way it was unbroken via an iTunes backup.
  • Never pay a fee to crack, if you unfortunately do it then try to find ways to stop that action.
