Smudge mascara is very often heard as a complaint in the beauty world. There's nothing worse than spending a lot of time on the perfect smokey eye, with the perfect liner to match, only to see black dots scattered across your lid when you apply your mascara. Or maybe you look in the mirror at lunchtime and notice that your mascara is slowly but surely moving towards your cheeks. Luckily, there are a few tricks that might help you avoid mascara smudges so you can get back to your flawless self!

Method 1 of 3: Avoid excess oil around your eyes

1. If regular mascara doesn't work, try a "tubing" mascara. Tubing mascara covers each individual lash with a special polymer that dries into a tube shape. These formulas are less prone to wiping out, although the individual tubes sometimes fall off throughout the day.
   • Tubing mascaras should be removed with warm water.
   • You can also try a cake mascara. These old fashioned mascaras are less likely to clump or smudge than mascaras that come in application tubes.
2. Bring cotton pads or a makeup removal pen just in case. Even though you're as matte as can get and you've applied a protective clear coat, your mascara can still smudge if you get stuck in the rain or if you sneeze too hard. If this happens, you can quickly touch up your makeup with a cotton ball or makeup remover pen, both of which will fit easily in your bag.
   • Bring concealer or face powder to cover the area after removing the smudges. You may be left with a visible hole in your foundation layer after removing a smudge with a cotton ball or makeup removal pen.
