Voice control can be very useful, but if your phone suddenly starts calling your contacts from your pocket, it can be very annoying. You turn on voice control by pressing and holding the home button, and you can easily do that accidentally in your pocket or bag. Apple does not offer an official way of using voice control to turn off, but there are ways to get around it.

To step

Method 1 of 2: Deactivate Siri and voice control

  1. Understand the process. Voice control cannot be turned off. This method turns on Siri, which in turn replaces voice control. You then set a passcode and deactivate Siri on the screen lock. This prevents you from turning on voice control or Siri with the home button when the screen is locked, and that prevents calling from the pocket.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap "General" and then "Siri".
  4. Slide the slider to the right to turn Siri on. This seems strange, but you have to turn on Siri to deactivate voice control.
  5. Go back to the Settings menu and tap "Passcode". If you are using iOS 7 or older you will find this under "General".
  6. Tap "Turn on code" and enter a passcode if you haven't already set one.
  7. Tap "Voice Control" to turn off voice control.
  8. Tap "Siri" to disable access to Siri when locked.
  9. Set "Ask for code" to "Immediately". This sets the phone to always ask for an access code when you have turned off the screen, preventing calls from your pocket.
  10. Lock your phone. Now that your settings are correct, you can no longer activate voice control or Siri by long pressing the home button while the phone is in your pocket.

Method 2 of 2: Turn off voice control for jailbroken phones

  1. Jailbreak your device. It's easy to turn off voice control on a jailbroken iPhone, but you can't jailbreak every iPhone.
  2. Open Settings and select "Activator". After jailbreaking, a "tweak" called "Activator" will be installed automatically. With this tweak you can change many settings of your iPhone.
    • If Activator is not installed, open Cydia and look for the tweak. Click here for detailed instructions on how to download tweaks on Cydia.
  3. Tap "Anywhere". This allows you to apply changes that always apply to the phone.
  4. Tap "Long Hold" under "Home Button". This is the normal command to activate voice control.
  5. Select "Do Nothing" under the "System Actions" section. This prevents a long press of the home button from activating voice control.
