You probably know, you're trying to read an article on your iPad, but every time you move your hands the screen rotates. Very frustrating! If you are tired of having to rotate your screen all the time, you can easily lock the screen rotation. Read on to learn how.

Method 1 of 3: Setting the side switch

Depending on your settings, you can turn off the sound or lock the rotation with the button on the side. If you swipe up to open Control Center you will see the other option. In the following steps, we'll assume you want to use the side button for rotation lock.

1. Open the Settings app. Here you can assign the button on the side of your iPad to rotate lock or "mute". When one option is selected, the other becomes available in the control panel.
   • For example, if the side switch is assigned to rotation lock, the "mute" button will appear in the control panel instead of the rotation lock button.
2. Tap on General. Here you can change the function of the button.
3. Go to the section "Side switch function". Select "Rotation lock".

Method 2 of 3: Using the control panel

1. Rotate your iPad to the desired position. After you lock your iPad you can no longer rotate the screen, so it is important that the screen is in the correct position first.
2. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open your iPad control panel. This gives you quick access to some buttons with which you can adjust the settings of your iPad.
3. Tap the rotation lock button. This will lock the screen rotation, so your screen will no longer rotate when you move the iPad. The button turns white when you have the rotation locked.

4. Close the control panel. Swipe down, no matter where on the screen, that will close the control panel. To reactivate screen rotation, simply open Control Center again and tap the button again.

Method 3 of 3: Using the side switch

1. Flip the switch to lock the screen rotation. If you see a color at the switch, the rotation is locked. You will also see a lock icon on the screen, indicating that the rotation is locked.

Tips

• If the rotation lock doesn't work, you can try restarting your iPad.
• Not all apps support rotating the screen.
