With a special emulator app and the game files you can play almost all Pokémon games on your device! You can play all Pokémon games up to Black & White 2 on your iPhone. It is currently not possible to play Pokémon X or Y on your iPhone.

To step

Method 1 of 3: Pokémon GO

  1. Go to the App Store. Pokémon GO is available for iPhones and Android devices. On the home screen of your device, swipe right with your finger and type "App Store" (or "Play Store" on an Android device) in the search bar that appears. Tap the App Store icon to open the App Store.
  2. Search for the Pokémon GO app. Tap the button Search at the bottom of the screen and type "Pokémon GO" in the search bar. Tap on Search to see a list of search results.
  3. Download the Pokémon GO app. Find the Pokémon GO app in the search results. Click the download button in the top right corner of the search results bar. You may be asked to enter your Apple ID password. After you have done that, the app should be downloaded.
  4. Open the Pokémon GO app. Press the Home button and tap the new Pokémon GO icon now on your Home screen.
    • If you don't see the app on your home screen, swipe left until you see the Spotlight search bar appear. Type "Pokémon GO" in the search bar and tap the app that appears.

  6. Enter your date of birth. click on To send when you've done that.
  7. Create a Pokémon GO account. You can do this in one of two ways:
    • Sign up with Gmail. If you have a Gmail account, you can choose this option to link your account to the game so that you can exchange data between both accounts. Signing up with Gmail seems to be a more stable option than using the Pokémon Trainer Club at this point.
    • Sign up for the Pokémon Trainer Club. This is a feature on Pokémon.com that builds a dedicated community of Pokémon players who can interact, fight, and trade Pokémon with each other. If you would like to join this community, this is a good option to choose.
  8. Design your trainer's avatar. After accepting the terms and conditions and having an introduction from Professor Willow, you will be presented with an image of two avatars.
    • Tap the avatar of your choice and you will see a screen where you can adjust the various physical characteristics of your avatar.
    • Adjust the features by tapping the different parts of the avatar and using the arrows to view the different appearance features.
    • When you're done designing your avatar, tap the check mark in the bottom right corner of the screen. You are now ready to play the game.

Method 2 of 3: Without jailbreak

  1. Don't update your iPhone to iOS 8.1. By updating your device to iOS 8.1 you can no longer use the GBA4iOS emulator app. After updating, you will no longer be able to install or use the app. If you want to continue using the GBA4iOS emulator, do not update your device to 8.1.
    • If you have already updated your device and have iOS 8.1, you will need to jailbreak your iPhone to install the GBA4iOS emulator.
  2. Open the Settings app on your iPhone. In order to install the Gameboy Advance emulator on your iPhone, you will have to change the date. You have to change this date every time you start up your iPhone.
    • You can use this emulator to play Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, LeafGreen or the original games.
  3. Tap "General".
  4. Tap "Date and Time".
  5. Set the slider at "Set automatically" to OFF.
  6. Set the date to at least one whole day earlier. It is best to set the date back a month if you want to make sure that everything is going well.

    • If you want to play the Nintendo DS versions of Pokémon (Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HG SS, Black, White, B2 and W2) then you need the NDS4iOS Emulator. You can download this emulator at iEmulators.com. You have to do the same date trick as described in the previous steps.
  9. Tap "Download GBA4iOS 2.0’.
  10. Tap the download link. If you are using iOS 7 or 8, tap the "Download GBA4iOS 2.0.X" button. If you are using iOS 6, tap the "Download GBA4iOS 1.6.2" button.

    • You have to reset the date every time you boot your iPhone.

  2. Open Cydia on your jailbroken iPhone. This is the package management app for jailbroken devices, and it lets you install apps and tweaks that aren't allowed in the Apple App Store.
  3. Search for "GBA4iOS". GBA4iOS has now been added to Cydia, which means you can download the emulator directly from the Cydia app. Search for it and then tap "GBA4iOS" in the list of search results.
    • If you want to play the Nintendo DS versions of Pokémon (Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HG SS, Black, White, B2 and W2) then you need the NDS4iOS Emulator. You can install this emulator in the same way.
  4. Tap "Install" to install the GBA4iOS app. Tap "Confirm" to start the download.
  5. Open GBA4iOS. After the app has been installed, you will be able to find it on your home screen. Tap the app to open it.

    • CoolROMs is one of the best places to download ROMs.
    • It is only legal to download ROMs for games you own.
  7. Download the ROM. When you've found a Pokémon ROM, download it to your iPhone by tapping the download link on the website.
  8. Open the file in GBA4iOS. After the file has completely downloaded, you will be asked to choose which app you want to open the file with. Choose GBA4iOS from the list.

Warnings

  • It is illegal to download ROMs for games that you do not own.
