This wikiHow teaches you how to make it harder to accidentally rearrange your Android home screen. You can install a free launcher such as Apex that adds a lock feature to the home screen, or use a built-in option that increases the delay of the touch-and-hold gesture.

Method 1 of 2: Using Apex Launcher

1. Open the Play Store Type Apex Launcher in the search bar.
2. Tap on Apex Launcher.
3. Tap on INSTALL.
4. Read the agreement and tap ACCEPT. The app will be downloaded to your Android. When the download is complete, the "ACCEPT" button changes to "OPEN".
5. Tap the home button on your Android. It is located at the bottom center of your phone or tablet. A pop-up menu will appear asking you to select an application.
6. Select Apex Launcher.
7. Tap on Always. This tells your Android to replace the launcher that came with your phone or tablet with the Apex launcher. Your home screen will now be refreshed to the standard Apex layout.
   • You will notice that your home screen looks different from how it looked. You have to reorganize it all over again.
8. Tap the 6 dots in a circle. It's at the bottom of the screen. This will open the app drawer, which contains all of your apps.
9. Drag the apps you want to the home screen. Just like you did with your original launcher, you can drag icons from the app drawer and drop them anywhere on the home screen.
10. Arrange the icons on your home screen the way you want to lock them. Tap and hold an icon you want to move and drag it to the desired location. Once you have your home screen the way you want it, move on to the next step.
11. Tap on Apex Menu. This is the white icon with three lines in it.
12. Tap on Lock desktop. A confirmation message will appear to let you know that you can no longer touch and move and move icons. But don't worry, you can always unlock it later.
13. Tap on YES. The icons on your home screen are now locked.
    • To unlock the icons, return to the Apex menu and tap Unlock Desktop.
    • If you decide you don't want to use Apex anymore, you can delete it. Just go to the page in the Play Store and tap REMOVE.

Method 2 of 2: Increase touch and hold delay

1. Open the settings of your Android Scroll down and tap Accessibility.
2. Tap on Touch and hold delay. A list of options will appear.
3. Tap on Long. You have chosen the longest delay. Now you have to wait a few seconds for your Android to register that you are touching and holding an item.
