This wikiHow teaches you how to collapse multiple columns in your Microsoft Excel spreadsheet using "Grouping".

To step

  1. Open your spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel. You can do this on your Mac or PC by double clicking on the file.
  2. Select the columns you want to collapse. To do this, click on the letter above the first column and then drag the mouse to include the second column. Both columns should now be selected.
    • If you don't want to collapse two whole columns, just select the cells you want to collapse (instead of selecting the column letters).
  3. Click on the tab data. It's at the top in Excel.
  4. click on Grouping. This is near the top right corner of the screen in the "Overview" group.
  5. Select Columns in the "Group" menu and click OK. If you don't see a popup when you click "Group", just continue with the next step.
  6. click on - to collapse the columns. This is on the left side of the gray bar above your spreadsheet. The columns will collapse and the "-" will change to a "+".
  7. click on + to restore the columns.
