Like other computers, Apple's iPhone occasionally needs a restart. You can do this by performing a so-called "hard reset". This action will not delete apps, songs, contacts or anything else that you have stored on your iPhone. It reboots the phone without going through normal shutdown procedures

To step

  1. Press and hold the home button (the square button below the screen) and the sleep button (on top of the iPhone) at the same time.
  2. Hold both buttons until the iPhone shuts down and starts rebooting. This takes between 15 and 60 seconds.
    • Assuming your iPhone is not completely frozen, you will now be given the option to turn off the device at this point. If you choose this, remember to turn your phone back on when you're done. Alternatively, you can ignore the shutdown prompt and continue with the next steps.
  3. You can let go the moment you see the Apple logo. You have now successfully performed a hard reset.
  4. Don't worry about it taking a while to load. You may see the Apple logo for quite a long time before the main screen opens. This is normal.

Warnings

  • Better to avoid hard reset your iPhone. If you have the option to shut down normally and just restart, do this instead of a hard reset.
