A soft-boiled egg is a great breakfast dish. An egg is quickly boiled, tastes great with toast and is packed with protein, so that you feel full for longer during the day. You can make soft-boiled eggs in a very simple way by boiling water and letting the eggs boil in the hot water. But you can also start with a warm bath, in which the eggs are very gently boiled. Once you've cooked the eggs exactly the way you like them, serve them with toasted bread, salt, along with your other favorite breakfast dishes and, well, why not try something else like toasted sesame seeds or soy sauce.

To step

Method 1 of 3: A cold start

  1. Immerse the eggs in cold water. Place the eggs in a saucepan and pour in enough cold water so that the eggs are 2.5 cm submerged.
    • If you want to cook more than 4 eggs, consider using a larger pan or boil the eggs in smaller batches at a time. That way, you will be able to get the eggs out of the water quickly so they don't get too hard.
  2. Bring water to the boil in a saucepan. Place a saucepan on the stove and pour in 2 to 3 inches of cold water. Turn up the heat so that the water boils. Then lower the heat a little so that the water bubbles slightly or boils gently.
    • To gently boil the eggs, the water should bubble slightly and there should be no large bubbles showing all over the surface of the water.
  3. Serve the egg in an egg cup. Using a slotted spoon or metal strainer, scoop the soft-boiled egg out of the hot water into the pan. Place the egg in an egg cup. You can have the pointed side facing up or down. An egg cup is not only cozy on the table, it also prevents the egg from rolling over your plate, so that you can eat it more easily.
    • If you don't have an egg cup, you can serve the boiled egg in a shot glass, in a tea glass, or in a small bowl.
  4. Serve soft-boiled eggs Malaysian. Eggs with Malaysian toast is a popular breakfast in Malaysia and Singapore. Break one soft-boiled egg into a small one-person jar (ramequin) so that the soft yolk stays together nicely. For this, take a soft-boiled egg with very soft egg white. Pour a little soy sauce over the egg and serve with toasted bread.
    • You can also sprinkle the eggs with white pepper and serve the toast with Malaysian kaya or coconut jam.
  5. Serve toasted bread with a dip egg. Boil an egg soft using the cold start method. Let the egg simmer for exactly 4 minutes and then remove the egg from the water with a slotted spoon. Put the egg in your egg cup and break it open. Toast a piece of bread, spread butter on it and serve with the egg as a dip.
    • Cut the toasted bread into a number of elongated strips to make classic soldiers. Then you can dip the soldiers in the soft-boiled egg yolk.

Tips

  • To make it easier to peel the eggs, you can rinse the soft-boiled eggs under cold running water after removing them from the hot water.
  • For an energy-efficient egg, put half a centimeter of water in a pan with a suitable lid. Place eggs in it, heat high and cover on. Set alarm to e.g. 6 minutes. As soon as the water boils, lower the heat. When the alarm has rung the eggs are scared. If the eggs are kept in the refrigerator, set the alarm a little higher. Fast and energy efficient!
