When you visit a website, data from that site is stored on your computer. This is also called the "cache" and helps the website to load faster the next time you visit it, because the data is now loaded from your own computer, instead of the server. In general, this does not cause any problems, but it also happens that you want the site to send new data to your computer.This is especially important for web developers who would like to see the changes made to a website as soon as they are uploaded. By changing the default Refresh command you can force the website to send you new data. Read more at Step 1 on how to do this.

To step

1. Press Ctrl-F5. In almost all browsers, pressing Ctrl-F5 will cause the browser to get the data from the server's website instead of from the cache. Firefox, Chrome, Opera, and Internet Explorer all send a "Cache-Control: no-cache" command to the server. This forces the server to send the complete web page to your browser.
   • In front of Safari users on OS X, press Option-Command-E to clear your cache, then press Command-R to refresh the page. Since the cache is now empty, the web page will be fetched from the server. If you don't want to clear the entire cache, see the next step.
2. Shift-click the Refresh button. While pressing the Refresh button on the address bar of your browser only performs a regular refresh, you can also force a refresh from the server by typing Shift and then clicking the Refresh button.
   • Internet Explorer users should hold down Ctrl and then click the Refresh button.
3. Delete your cache. If you prefer to reload all the websites you have visited from their respective servers, you can also decide to delete the local cache. This forces the website to send the latest version from the server.
   • Users who use their mobile internet should also do this, because there is no faster option to force a refresh in browsers of mobile devices.
