1. Soak your shirt. Some textile paints contain sodium carbonate (soda or soda ash), which ensures that the paint takes well. Dissolve the sodium carbonate in a bowl of water and soak your shirt in it for about 20 minutes.
   • If there is no sodium carbonate in your paint, you can soak your shirt in warm water. You can also buy some soda ash separately.
   • Do not use hot or cold water, as this will make the paint less effective.
   • If you don't want the paint to soak into the shirt, don't get it wet at all before painting. If you dye a damp shirt, the color will penetrate faster and better. So if you don't want that, then paint it when it's dry.
2. Make tie-dye cupcakes. Give your pastries a colorful twist with tie-dye. You can give items rainbow hues or create a colorful glaze for the top.

Tips

• Never use hot or boiling water, otherwise the paint will not work properly.
• Use a 100% cotton shirt, as not all fabrics can be dyed well.
• Wear rubber gloves and an apron to keep your skin and clothing clean.
• Wash your shirt before dyeing it, because if it has stains on it, the dye may turn out differently.
