Exfoliate your skin regularly to remove the dead cells that build up on the surface. These dead cells can cause acne, dullness and dry, itchy skin. Olive oil contains natural antioxidant properties that protect the skin from damage and also help moisturize it. Combine it with sugar - which provides the natural granules that buff away dead skin - and you have the magic ingredients for an effective scrub. With sugar, olive oil, and a few other products you probably already have in your kitchen, you can make a variety of scrubs for your body, face, and lips.

Ingredients

Simple sugar and olive oil scrub

  • 3 tablespoons (45 ml) extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons (43 g) of organic honey
  • ½ cup (115 g) of organic sugar

Sweet vanilla sugar and olive oil scrub

  • ½ cup (100 g) of brown sugar
  • ½ cup (115 g) of granulated sugar
  • ⅓ cup (79 ml) of olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons (43 g) of organic honey
  • ¼ teaspoon (1 ml) vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon (2.5 ml) of vitamin E oil

Facial scrub made of sugar, olive oil and strawberries

  • ½ cup (115 g) of sugar
  • ¼ cup (59 ml) of olive oil
  • 2 to 3 strawberries, cut into pieces

Caster sugar and olive oil lip scrub

  • 1 tablespoon (12.5 g) caster sugar
  • ½ tablespoon (7.5 ml) of olive oil

To step

Method 1 of 4: Prepare a simple sugar and olive oil scrub

  1. Mix the olive oil and honey together. Place 3 tablespoons (45 ml) of extra virgin olive oil in a plastic or glass jar with a lid. Then add 2 tablespoons of organic honey and stir until the ingredients are completely mixed.
    • Organic honey provides the most natural scrub, but you can use regular honey instead.
  2. Add the sugar. When the olive oil and honey are mixed, stir in ½ cup (115 g) of organic sugar. Mix this well until it forms a thick, grainy paste.
    • You can replace the regular white sugar with organic sugar.
    • If you prefer a grainy scrub, add a little more sugar.
    • For a smoother scrub, add less sugar.
  3. Gently massage the scrub onto your skin. Before use, take a small amount of scrub out of the jar with your fingers. Rub it on your skin in circular motions for about 60 seconds to gently exfoliate.
    • On very dry areas, such as the elbows and feet, it is okay to rub it in for more than a minute.
  4. Rinse with warm water. After you rub the scrub, wash it off with warm water. Gently pat your skin dry with a clean towel to complete the process.
    • The olive oil in the scrub moisturizes your skin, but if your skin is very dry, you can apply lotion or cream immediately afterwards to provide extra hydration.

Method 2 of 4: Mix sweet vanilla sugar and olive oil scrub

  1. Combine the olive oil, honey, vanilla extract, and vitamin E oil. Place ⅓ cup (79 ml) of olive oil, 2 tablespoons (43 g) of honey, ¼ teaspoon (1 ml) of vanilla extract, and ½ teaspoon (2.5 ml) of vitamin E oil in a small bowl. Use a spoon to thoroughly mix the ingredients.
    • If you prefer a different scent, you can replace the vanilla extract with your favorite essential oil. Lemon, grapefruit, and lavender are all good options.
  2. Add the sugars. Once all the liquid ingredients are mixed, stir in ½ cup (100 g) of brown sugar and ½ cup (115 g) of granulated sugar. Stir until all ingredients form a thick, gritty paste.
    • You can only use brown or granulated sugar in the scrub, depending on what you have in your pantry.
  3. Apply the scrub to your skin in a circular motion. Before use, massage it gently into your skin. Work in circular motions, being careful not to rub too hard to avoid irritating the skin.
    • You can use the scrub on your face as well as the rest of your body. Just make sure to avoid the eye area.
  4. Wash the scrub off with water. After you've massaged the scrub over your skin, rinse it off with warm water. Use enough cold water to close your pores and then pat your face dry with a clean towel.
    • After using the scrub, apply a body cream or face cream to lock in the moisture.

Method 3 of 4: Make a sugar, olive oil and strawberry facial scrub

  1. Mix the sugar and olive oil together. Place ½ cup (115 g) of sugar and ¼ cup (59 ml) of olive oil in a small bowl. Use a spoon to gently stir the ingredients together until completely blended.
    • Maintain a ratio of 2 to 1 for sugar and olive oil. Adjust the amounts to make as much or as little of the scrub as you want.
  2. Add the strawberries in pieces and stir them into the sugar mixture. When the sugar and oil are mixed, stir in 2 to 3 finely chopped strawberries. Use a spoon or fork to mix the fruit in the sugar and oil mixture until they are combined.
    • Avoid mixing the strawberries in the sugar mixture too hard. It can cause the sugar granules to dissolve.
    • The strawberries refresh and strengthen your skin.
  3. Put the mixture in a covered jar and keep it in the refrigerator. When all ingredients are combined, scoop the scrub into a jar or other container with a lid. Keep it in the refrigerator where it will stay fresh for up to two weeks.
  4. Massage the scrub over dry skin. Apply the scrub to a dry face with clean fingers. Use a circular motion to rub it into the skin and gently wipe away the dead skin cells.
    • Be careful not to rub the scrub too hard. The skin on the face is quite sensitive and can be easily irritated if you rub too hard.
  5. Rinse the scrub off with water and pat your face dry. After you rub the scrub, wash it off with warm water. Use a clean towel to gently dry your face and apply your usual serum, moisturizer and / or other treatment products.
    • You can use the scrub once or twice a week for brighter and clearer skin.

Method 4 of 4: Mix a lip scrub of brown sugar and olive oil

  1. Mix the brown sugar and olive oil together. Add 1 tablespoon (12.5 g) of brown sugar and ½ tablespoon (7.5 ml) of olive oil to a small bowl or bowl. Stir the two ingredients together until completely blended.
    • You can always adjust the amount of olive oil. You need just enough of this to make the sugar stick together, so if you prefer a gritty scrub, you can use less than ½ tablespoon (7.5 ml).
  2. Rub the scrub over your lips. Once the sugar and olive oil are mixed, use your finger to gently apply the scrub to your lips. Massage it in for about 30 to 60 seconds to remove dead skin.
    • You can use the scrub once a week. If your lips tear badly in the colder months, you can also use it twice a week.
  3. Wipe the scrub off with a damp washcloth. After you've massaged the scrub, wet a washcloth with warm water. Gently wipe your lips with it until all the scrub is removed.
    • Then use a lip balm to soothe and moisturize your lips.

Tips

  • If you don't have sugar at home, you can replace it with fine sea salt in all the recipes mentioned.
  • While regular exfoliating is good for your skin, don't use any of these scrubs more than 1 to 2 times a week. You can easily irritate your skin if you exfoliate too much.

Warnings

  • Although these scrubs contain natural ingredients, they could still cause an unwanted reaction. It is best to do an allergy test before using the scrubs everywhere. Dab a small amount of the scrub on the inside of your wrist, let it sit for a minute or two, then wash it off. Wait 24 to 48 hours and if there is no response, you can probably use the scrub without any problems.
