Much of our society seems to be built on a scarcity mentality. It is a mindset that tells people that something is missing in life and that opportunities are few. This is of course useful for marketing purposes and advertisers, because if people think there is a lack of something, then you can make them buy things; in this way the economy and society can continue to thrive and flourish by reinforcing a scarcity mentality in the population.

The scarcity mindset can be quite painful for the individual and cause a lot of unnecessary fear, anxiety and despair. An abundance mentality, on the other hand, tells you that there are always new possibilities and opportunities. This relieves much of the pressure you can feel when you have a scarcity mindset that makes you think you only have one chance at this point. Or it makes you feel like a complete failure just because you stumbled and things turned out differently. An abundance mindset can help you improve your performance because it creates much less pressure and fears in your own mind.

Here are a few tips to create and strengthen your own abundance mindset.

To step

  1. Look for the symptoms of a scarcity mindset. If you have a scarcity mindset, then you probably won't take anything too seriously. You may think, "If I fail, everything will go wrong." But it doesn't, and you know it and you need to remind yourself. But you think so, you get overly nervous and BOOM! you invited that failure because your negativity becomes an obstacle on your path to success. If it is a game, then you are muddling with the ball. If it is an exam, you probably have not been able to sleep and you will perform poorly. If it's a date, you may come across as too needy and nervous, rather than your usual and more relaxed self. Restore your strength by remembering all the opportunities that have been presented to you in the past and be aware that it is all a flow that will never end.
  2. Focus on the abundance and not the lack. What you focus on is what you will encounter in the world. Because you cannot absorb everything around you, your reticular activation system - your focusing system in the mind - will visualize what you focus your thoughts on.

This will allow you to see the abundance in your world that you may not be able to see right now. For example, if you lack money, don't focus on the lack.Concentrate and think about the abundance of money-making opportunities in the world. Soon ideas and opportunities to make that happen will "pop up" in your world. It's almost a bit bizarre how things that have those solutions for you - maybe books or acquaintances - that have been sitting in the background for a while, suddenly spring out to you.
  3. Be grateful. A quick way to deviate from the fairly normal habit of thinking about what you don't have is to simply be grateful. Be grateful for your food, for life, for the roof over your head, your friends and family, and so on. Not only can this turn your bad mood into a more positive mood within minutes, but it can also help you notice the opportunities you missed or forgot. And it will create a more open atmosphere in you, one that makes it easier to focus on the abundance. So make it a habit to be grateful for something in your life for a few minutes every day.
  4. Get organized. If you don't feel abundant or feel good about yourself or life in general, it could mean you're just not okay. Make sure your house is clean, your clothes are neatly folded, your digital files are in place and you have your finances in order. Get some order and discipline, and you will start to see results.
  5. Include an abundance vibe from other people. Because you get a scarcity mentality from, for example, advertising and the media, you can change your input to change your mentality. Watch the news less. Record your favorite shows and skip the commercials. Or simply spend less time on TV and media, period.

Replace the scarcity atmosphere you get from that input. How do you do that? Associate with people who have an abundance mindset. Read, listen and view material for your personal development. Read not only your favorite personal development blogs, but also success stories in books and magazines. Have a positive attitude towards the abundance and success of your friends, family, and colleagues. Associate with people in real life who have more of a mindset of abundance and less of a mindset of scarcity. Be selective with what you have in mind. Create your own environment of abundance.
  6. Share the wealth. A really good way to acknowledge how much you have is to share it. Do you feel like you are not making enough money? Then give something away. Not enough love? Then give something away. Not enough validation, appreciation, recognition? Then give it all away. It is difficult to experience something as scarce when you give it away.
  7. Create win-win situations. People with a scarcity mindset tend to see that any relationship is win-lose, like, `` It's you or me, mate, and I want to win. '' People with an abundance mindset, on the other hand, try create mutually beneficial relationships in which both parties can win. Instead of winning an argument, try to come to an agreement for something that both of you can be happy with. Collaborate instead of competing.
  8. Remind yourself. It is very easy to fall back into your old thinking patterns. You just forget what you should be thinking about. A useful tool to avoid relapses is to use external reminders. For example, you can use written notes that you put in places where you can see them multiple times each day - your work area, the refrigerator, and mirrors - or put a bracelet on your wrist. Seeing words or quotes that remind you of your new abundance mindset can put your mind back into the right mindset.
  9. When you face your greatest loss, it can be your greatest chance. If you lose your job and you're about to lose your home, you can sell anything you don't like, don't want, or start cutting back on your material possessions right away. That means less to lug around, so the "new beginnings" can be right where you've always wanted to live. You have to find a way to make a living, so it might as well be an entry level to what you've always wanted to do, rather than just looking for a job, any job. Aim high. Those crises are the point in life where everything that held you back can be left behind, and moving towards something better than you've ever had will make all the sacrifices meaningful. It's very different to be frugal and live small because you are just starting out, than living a diminished lifestyle that is considered a failure. Take the opportunity to give yourself something money can't buy, such as time and freedom.

Tips

  • If the sense of scarcity is strong, think about the previous times when you had abundance. Realize that you can recreate similar conditions.
  • Learn to face the reality of living within your means. Many people have a habit of copying and envying others by more means. This can ruin your day or your whole life. It is therefore important to live within your means while looking for ways to improve them. You will be free from stress and inappropriate competition that does not bring satisfaction.
  • A realistic example of the abundance mindset is the "copyleft" movement, which aims to relax the restrictions of traditional copyrights. More and more people are licensing their work with GFDL, Creative Commons, or even releasing it into the public domain. Leo Babauta, founder of the popular Zen Habits blog, for example, decided to release all of his content in the public domain. Many programmers share software and programs for free in the open source spirit.

Warnings

  • Don't get so caught up in an abundance mindset that you become a doormat that allows people to take advantage of your generosity. Remember to surround yourself with people who also have an abundance mindset, who give as much as they take, otherwise the "parasites" will drain you and end up giving you a scarcity mentality.
  • Also, don't get to the point where you find yourself going through life without a goal for yourself. Remember to "seize the day."
