It can be quite tricky to put a photo in a locket because the shape of the photo must exactly match the hole in the locket. However, there are a few smart and easy-to-use solutions, such as making a paper mold, making a photocopy of the locket, or transferring the shape of the locket with ink. Choose the method that best suits the type of locket you have and before you know it, you will be able to glue your photo in place with ease.

To step

Method 1 of 3: With tracing paper

  1. Open the locket. Lay it flat, with the open side facing you.
  2. Let the glue dry before closing the locket. Once it dries, you can wear the locket.

Method 2 of 3: Copy the locket

  1. Take the medallion to a copy shop. If you work somewhere where there is a photocopier, you're in luck. If not, go to a store where you can make a copy with a copier.
    • This method is best for a locket that can be flipped open completely. If the hinge of your locket prevents the locket from laying completely flat, you won't be able to make a good copy.
    • If you have a scanner and printer at home, you can use those too.
  2. Make a copy. Make sure that the copier settings are set so that the copy is made at its actual size (100 percent) and that it does not become larger or smaller than the actual size of the locket.
    • If you are using a scanner, scan the medallion, open the scanned file on your computer and print the image. Make sure your scanner and printer settings allow you to print an image of the locket in actual size (100 percent).
  3. Let the glue dry before closing the locket. Once it dries, you can wear the locket.

Method 3 of 3: With ink or paint

  1. Buy an ink pad or simple hobby paint. A water-soluble, washable ink or paint is best because you press your medallion directly into it. If you're using craft paint, you can spread it very thinly on a paper plate.
    • Do not use this method if your locket is very valuable. Since ink or paint gets directly on the locket, there is a possibility that it will get damaged.
    • It is recommended to first test the ink or paint on an inconspicuous place, such as the inside of the medallion. Put a drop in the center of the locket and check if you can easily rub it off with a damp cloth. If not, use a different method.
  2. Let the glue dry before closing the locket. Once it dries, you can wear the locket.

Tips

  • If you want to permanently affix your photo to your locket, look for varnishes at a craft store to apply thinly over the photo. This will protect the photo from water or other damage. Make sure it is acid-free varnish so that it will last a long time without damaging your photo.

Warnings

  • Do not use permanent ink or paint to make a stamp of your locket. You should be able to brush it off after you're done. Cheap hobby paint from budget stores is usually good for this. In any case, make sure that the paint or ink is washable. Children's paint is almost always washable.
