The women in your life can play a very important role in your life, whether they are your family member, girlfriend, mentor, colleague, boss, co-worker or caregiver. International Women's Day is an opportunity to let the special women in your life know how much you appreciate them, whether that means sending a card or having a party! You can also support the women in your community or around the world by donating money or volunteering for women's rights organizations.

To step

Method 1 of 3: Show your appreciation

  1. Call the women in your life so they know you're thinking about them. Calling someone is quick and easy, but it does make sense because it shows that you appreciate someone. Pick up the phone and connect with the women in your life who are most important to you, especially if you haven't spoken to them for a while. Take the time to catch up, ask them how they are, and let them know how much you appreciate them.
    • You can say something like, “Hey, Angela, I was just thinking about the time when I was in high school and going through a rough time, and how much you were there for me back then. I realized we haven't spoken to each other for a while. How are you?"
    • If you don't like calling, you can also send a message or a short e-mail.
  2. Write a letter expressing your appreciation and gratitude. Taking the time to write a letter is a great way to show someone you love them. If you know a woman you would like to pay tribute to, think of all the ways she has made a beautiful contribution to your life and include them in a loving letter. If you want to make it extra special, you can write the letter on extra beautiful paper.
    • Give some examples of how she has helped you or made a valuable contribution to your life in some other way.Include specific examples of how she has helped you, inspired you, or otherwise positively impacted your life. For example, you can say, “I will never forget the things you taught me in class. Your passion for science has inspired me to study Biology. ”
  3. Buy or make some gifts that suit her. You can always give presents, you don't always have to wait for a special occasion to give a gift to someone. You can always put the spotlight on a woman who is special to you by giving her something valuable that shows that you really thought of her. It really doesn't have to be expensive or fancy - just buy something that shows who she is and what she means to you.
    • For example, you could give your best friend a beautifully framed photo of the two of you, or give your English teacher a cup with a quote from her favorite writer.
    • If you are creative, you can also make your own gift, making it even more personal.
  4. Ask if there is anything you can help them with. Women are very busy because they often work and do a lot at home, and as a result they often have little time for themselves. You can show your love for one of the women in your life by taking some work off her hands, whether that means babysitting her kids for the afternoon, helping her with the groceries, or brainstorming with her about a project she would like to do business.
    • If you're not sure how best to help her, just ask. Just say something like, “Aunt Suzanne, you're always so busy. Is there anything I can do to help you get some rest? ”
    • If she feels taken aback by your offer, offer specific help so she doesn't have to figure out what to help her with. For example, you can say, "Mom, shall I cook tonight so you can take it easy?"
  5. Have some quality time with the women most precious in your life. Set aside some time to drink coffee, go out for dinner, watch a movie, or go on an adventure together. Spending one-on-one time with the women you care about is a great way to show them how much you appreciate them.
    • You can also say something like, “We really haven't seen each other in a century! Would you like to have lunch with me this Friday? ”
  6. Make a post on your social media in which you honor the important women in your life. If a woman you know has made your life more beautiful in any way, celebrate that happy fact by making it known to the whole world! Write a blog post about her, post a photo of the two of you on Facebook with a subtitle expressing your love and gratitude, or write a message just for her on Twitter, with a hashtag like #Women's Day or #SeeHerBeHer.
    • You can even create a series of posts honoring various female role models, mentors, or friends who have played a role in your life.

Method 2 of 3: Host an event

  1. Invite a few women you love to dinner at your place. You can make the women in your life feel that you care about them by taking the time to cook extensively for them. Have a warm welcome at your home so you can catch up, have delicious food and drinks at home, and show your appreciation for them.
    • You can make the dinner party festive by playing a game together or by watching a fun movie together.
    • Have some drinks or mocktails with your dinner, and toast to the amazing women you know and love!
  2. Meet at your favorite restaurant. If you'd rather hang out with a larger group (or just don't feel like cooking), call some women you love and invite them over for a festive lunch, dinner, or drinks at your favorite cafe. Take this opportunity to shamelessly feast on your favorite foods!
    • You can honor the women in your life by going out for brunch, for example, where you can order waffles and mimosa cocktails, as if it were Galentine's Day (Valentine's Day only for women).
  3. Organize a fun outing with some of the women who play an important role in your life. If you are adventurous, you can look for fun and exciting things to do to celebrate your get-together. For example, you can all go to a museum, take a walk, do a workshop or even go away for a weekend!
    • Check websites such as Groupon or Socialdeal to find attractive offers for group outings in your area.
  4. Throw a party on International Women's Day. Read more about International Women's Day here. What better way to pay tribute to the women in your life than to celebrate International Women's Day with them? Organize a meeting on March 8th. Invite the women you want to honor, and invite even more people who would love to celebrate International Women's Day with you.
    • If you'd rather not throw a party yourself, check the internet to find out which International Women's Day events are being organized near you.

Tip: Every year the United Nations sets a theme for International Women's Day. Find out how you can incorporate this theme into your celebration of the women in your life. For example, you can celebrate the 2020 theme, “Freedom” by conducting a quiz with questions related to the topic of freedom and a prize donated to a women's organization that you hold dear.

Method 3 of 3: Supporting women's causes

  1. Educate yourself about the topics that affect women. Worldwide, women face a variety of challenges specific to women, ranging from achieving and upholding equal rights between women and men, to dealing with health issues specific to the bodies of women and transgender women. Support the women in your life by reading books on these topics, by paying attention to women's issues in the news and in politics, and by listening to the women you know as they talk about the issues that affect their lives play.
    • Be aware that women in minority groups, such as women of color and women who are LGBTQ +, face even more challenges than those already faced by women in general.
  2. Donate to a women's organization. Donating to a women's organization that supports women is a great way to honor the women in your life and make a positive contribution to the world. For example, you can donate to a stay-away-from-my-body-house, or by organizing an event to donate money to a national or international women's organization.
    • On the internet you can find lists of various women's organizations, and an international list of charities can be found on the American website Charity Navigator. Always research a charity or nonprofit organization before making a donation to make sure your contribution is being well spent.

Tip: If you want to appreciate a woman in your life, you can also donate to a nonprofit organization she supports.

  3. Volunteer with a women's organization. Making your time available is one of the best ways you can support an organization that is important to you. Contact a nonprofit, charity, or other women's organization that you care about and ask if they could use your help.
    • For example, you can cook meals at the local women's shelter, volunteer at a hospital where you help new exhausted mothers in the midwifery department, or help girls in your community by joining BigBrothersBigSisters.
  4. Vote for politicians who stand up for women's rights. People's representatives can have an enormous influence on women's lives. When election time comes, research the candidates' positions on women's issues. Support the women in your community by voting for candidates who stand up for women's issues and encourage your friends and family to do the same.
    • Check whether the various candidates have actively engaged in women's issues in the past. For example, if you live in the United States, you can download U.S. voting history. Senate and U.S. Find Congress on the official websites.
  5. Buy the products of women artists, writers and innovators. Women make a valuable contribution to the world every day, as female artists, writers, scientists, activists and teachers. Buy the work of the women you admire, share it, and publicly acknowledge it.
    • For example, if you have a favorite writer, buy her books and support her by giving positive reviews online.
